I was the coach that left FSC...I love the school and enjoyed my time there as the Head XC Coach. It was my decision to leave because I could not afford to work there. I tried to make it work by doing other things to make money and during that I found another passion. I started Elite Timing and Event Management. I do miss working with the fast runners and college coaching, but I still get my coaching fix by doing it privately. It could be a great place for someone to have a nice program. It just wasn't for me.
A couple things -
Most people don't understand that college coaching in XC/TF is not what it's cracked up to be. First, you have to know your role. XC/TF is not high up on the list at most colleges and universities. Second, at smaller schools - scholarship money is an issue, must learn to fund raise to take your program from Regional Champions to National Champions...development will only take you so far. Third, having a XC program is one thing, adding a full TF program is another can of worms. More pay and more coaches are needed to do this.
