Anyone know who Paul Geis was? The name is new to me. Was this time accomplished during his collegiate career?
'76 5k Olympian. 12th in the final.
Classic photo of him smiling at the camera passing John Ngeno in a dual w/ WaSt.
It looks like Geis ran in the '74 & '75 NCAA outdoor track finals, but this is labeled as the "3-mile run" and NOT a 5000m. This introduces another kink -- were there a lot of 5000m races available to collegiate runners in the '70's, or were most competitions of the 3-mile variety? I would doubt that record-keepers & statisticians would try to equate the two and "adjust" the times, since there's a decent amount of difference in the length of each race.
Off the Grid -- can you post a link to the "Classic photo", please?

Not sure where the picture is....
Paul Geis was the last American male from the University of Oregon to make an Olympic final on the track (I'm considering the marathon to be a road race). Geis was in the 5,000 meters in Montreal in 1976, where he placed 12th. He was also NCAA champion for three miles in 1974.
That stat may change with Galen Rupp.
What did Adam Goucher run when he was at Colorado?
Goucher did not break 13:30 while at CU, I believe. He may not have even broken 13:40?

Let's try to keep with the thread topic...
XC score, you can scratch out Maree, Rono, Leek, Kimeto, Kimobwa, Nyambui, Staynings, and Kaitany -- I believe all of then were not U.S. citizens at the time.
But I'm still hoping to hear from someone to confirm or deny my original post; is Brent Vaughn now the #2 fastest 5000m American whilst enrolled in college?
What does it fcuking matter?

I was looking at the 1989 10000 meters. Is this THE Todd Williams who finished 15th in 30:38? That is really bad for him. I didn't know that St. Cloud State had been in Division I.

Why is that bad? Williams was a sophomore with PRS of 14:14 and 28:57.

Paul Geis 13:23.4 in '74?
I believe this was the year he sat out after transfering to Oregon, so technically he might not have been a colligate.

That was 1973. He won NCAA for Oregon in 1974.

my time was run in summer of 1974 in Helsinki between my junior and senior years of college. Pre set the American Record in that race, a second faster, but was either out of collegiate eligibilty or had graduated (not sure which).
