I don't own a Garmin and I've been working on the assumption it's 4.5 miles. But someone told me the other day it's 4.7 after they made some changes to the path a while back.

It's probably about that. If you do an add on up to the road and along the golf course before getting back on the lake loop it makes it about 5.
Does it really matter? It is somewhere about 4.5 miles.
It is exactly 5 miles. That is if you do the little penisula thingy after the boat house, before the amphitheatre.
hugging the turns, you might cut it down to 4.8, as it is very twisty.
Its more like 4.6 if that small of a difference really matters. You have the mile markers but the spot between the 3 and 3.5 mile marker is definitely a tad long, and from the 4 mile marker its just barely over .5 until you complete the loop. I'd say 4.6 is the best estimate. Also, the sign at the start of the lake loop says 4.5, but I think thats just so people can figure out pace, etc. a little easier.
Don't put rely on a Garmin for an accurate measurement.
During my Mason years we ran that loop almost every week. We measured it quite a few times and the average came out to 4.6 miles.
Grow a set and go run at Fountainhead.
Can't it be mapped sing google earth or the "Create a running route" on usatf.org

A northern region HS coach wheeled it last summer and told me it came out to 7,400 meters. Having run the loop many, many times, I would say this sounds accurate.

So that's about 4.6. Thanks.
The USATF course has it at 7.27 km (4.52 miles). But somehow I don't think that's right.
And yes, it does matter when you're doing 3-4 loops.
Or about 4.598 miles.
My five mile pr of 22:40 is actually from that loop. My next fastest time is 23:50. I was really on that day
