I used to take Iron everyday. I haven't in a while, don't quite know why. I have 18mg tablets. I don't remember if I'm supposed to take 1 or 2.....I'm 6'2", 170ish, if that matters.
How many should I take daily?

One, but they are not going to do very much. If you really need iron then liquid iron + oj + iron rich diet (esp the latter) is much more effective...those pills provide MINIMAL iron absorption. If you are not anemic I would not take iron supplements due to some of their dangers, just eat well.
Eat buffalo. It's lower in calories and it's iron content is 70% higher than beef. Plus, if you really want iron, take ferrous sulfate in orange juice and then pop a few vit c chewable tabs. It's 5 bucks for a big bottle at the Wal-Mart pharmacy.
and before someone else gets to it...I realize I have a typo in it's.
what are the dangers of iron tablets? only downside i heard was they turn you poo black! i take some, 325mg, i had an iron defiency, i wasnt annemic (don't know how to spell it:P) but i dont have a defiency now however i still take them. Usually about 3 a week.
so yeahh...
what are the dangers?
As far as I know, heavy overdosing of iron can cause internal organ damage (liver, kidneys). Most people don't retain that much iron, so don't need to worry unless supplementing in an insane way, but there is a relatively rare genetic condition called haemochromatosis, where the body 'hoards' iron - these people can do themselves great harm if their iron intake is too high.
Anyone more knowledgeable want to contribute?
Heavy metal poisoning kills you and lighter amount you can get extreme constipation, I've asked a doctor before.
The tablets have worked for me--too a degree--, I think I was taking two, but I'm not too sure. I thank you for all the help, but could someone who takes iron tablets tell me what they take? Or a doctor who knows the limits before having any risk?
ive taken it for over a year, and never had constipation! maybe i just eat plenty of bread.
mine was preety high dosage 325mg think it was anyhoos
but yeah i talk to docters aswell

I need to start taking liquid iron since my ferritin level is close to being below normal. Try to get rid of this fatigue.
What is the best type to take (brand name)? I see that it can derived from plant or animal. What is the difference and what is the best. Also, any good places to order it online. Thanks.
How long should you wait it consume milk products after taking iron pills and an orangee?
Many family docs don't have time to keep up with the literature on minor things like iron therapy, but there is a far superior iron formula now called Iron Amino Acid Chelate that is more absorbable than ferrous sulfate, far less prone to iron overload (although that generally requires a hereditary issue as the body has a systems for detecting too much iron and ceasing absoprtion), and doesn't cause stomach problems. Chelated iron has a lethal does more than twice as high as ferrous sulfate and owing to its chemistry.
Make sure when you take iron you distinguish the mg of the supplement formula itself (gthe molecule the iron is tied up in) from how much actual iron it provides. Most of the mass of ferrous sulfate is the sulfate part and that is the part responsible for the unpleasant GI effects.

It’s called Blue Iron. Little expensive. Tastes like blueberry
I've been taking 300 mg/day for a year and a half now, my ferritin level is 163
My doc recommended liquid iron by Wellesse. 1 tablespoon per day.

The plant based one is not absorbed if you eat bread. I was proud of my Radiance curry-based pills but they dropped my iron levels.
