I just got back from the course, watching at the 25 mile mark at BU, and I have to say that Robert Cheriyot (sorry for the misspelling) was out of this world. It's amazing to see in person how much of a lead he has over the rest of the field. Really puts into perspective how dominant the guy is.
As for the rest of the elite field, Wejo was right in his preview: it was weak. With no disrespect to the sub-elite guys who ran great races today, the BAA really needs to step up to the plate and start giving appearance fees to lure more top international runners. It didn't even look like a World Marathon Major. It was like watching the sub-elite US championship marathon, plus 20-30 faster Africans. I don't think there's anything wrong with a marathon chocked full of 2:25-2:35 guys, actually it seems pretty cool to me, but that's not what constitutes a World Marathon Major. Is it possible for Boston to be booted out of the WMM's?
