I know many guys on other teams and when I asked them how far they run the day before a race they state the course or about 8 miles. Now for guys that are running 80 - 90 miles a week does this seem goofy. I run mid to low 90's and run about 12 the day before the race until the important part of the season comes up and then I probably will run 8 - 10 then before nats 4 or so. My point is why back down before a race like that, because in all reality the race is not really a race in the early mid part of the season. We look at races as workouts and look to approach them in a laid back mannor but it appears that a lot of the people that I know back down considerably before a race but do not before their middle of the week workouts. I have seen no signs of excessive fatigue in races and cannot wait to drop the mileage in about 4 to 5 weeks, just curious to what other people did/do and thought about this stance.
