Was that the same Allen Wagner last night in the Mt. Sac 10k (30:44), that was recently on the Hansons?
If it was, what team is he running for now? If he isn't on the Hansons, that was a short contract because he just joined them.

That was the same Wagner. The training in Rochester Hills wasn't what he was hoping. The weather sucks a** as well. From what I understand the group trains extremely hard on non quality days and that's not Wagner's style. Ran with him in college, don't listen to the garbage in the other post concerning the La Jolla half. He's a good guy.
He had no choice. He was givin the option of leaving NOW or in a couple months when his tial period ended.
The training "wasn't what he was hoping"?? Every time I saw the Hanson guys running around the park during workouts, this guy was gettin' dropped, so don't make it sound like the training wasn't good enough for him. He couldn't keep up.
The weather "sucks a**"?? Really?? Well, the other athletes that have flourished there seem to heve dealt with it just fine. Perhaps it's because he's a California weather guy and the rest of the Hanson athletes are mid westerners used to weather that "sucks a**"....Oh, wait, Nick Arcinanaga just pr'ed in the marathon finishing as 1st American at Boston in weather that "sucks a**"....Desi Davila pr'ed in the marathon trials even after struggling the last miles after training in weather that "sucks a**"
These west coast weather athletes seem to have survived the same winter that "sucks a**" that this Wagner guy could not.
The group that "trains extremely hard on non quality days" has produced multiple US team members, now has an olympian, and has the attention of our entire country's distance population. I'm kinda glad they are "not Wagner's style". The more I hear about this lad, the more I'm glad he's back in California. Makes me kind of curious why Hanson's let him in in the first place.
Easy there Stan, sounds like you have some very personal feelings toward Viking Alum and Wagner. Viking never said that the training wasn't hard enough with hansons, just that it wasn't his style. You made that up.
Maybe you havn't noticed but the weather actually does suck in Michigan. If you think Wagner was the only one that didn't like the weather, maybe you should read the Hansons logs, many of the top runners in the group complain about the weather, all winter long.
You don't know why the hansons wanted him? Could be his 25th place finish at the trials, ahead of most of the hansons athletes.
Okay, Pam, I agree on point one. It just sounded like the Viking Alum thought Mr Wagner was hoping for more than he was getting. I was just saying he got more than he could handle from what I would see at Stony. You're right though, I got that one wrong. Sorry.
You are sort of right on point 2, I don't read the Hanson logs, but what I can say is if they do complain, they seem to handle it just fine based on performance. Mr Wagner did not. If the top runners compalin all winter long, that's nothing new, we Michiganders compalin about the weather every 10 minutes. Complaining is one thing, succeeding despite these complaints is another.
Point 3? Yeah, he ran really well that day, that's gotta be why they wanted him. But if he's really the kind of guy that would do what he did, I had to wonder why they'd put thier name on his chest, thats all.
Pam, if you know Mr Wagner, tell him we hope he can repair his reputation and get back to running like he did when he ran his 2:18, and acting like a professional. Our sport does not need any more negative press like he has created.

Since when does a 2:18 guy create any press? I've never heard of him until just now. Your talking out of your butt.

Did he really do anything THAT shocking? I would venture as far as to say that we have ALL done something or another that we regret and what Allen did wasn't worse than most. Runners in the USA are all too often like piranhas waiting to feast upon their own. I don't blame Allen for being angry if the RD did call him a "cheat." He obviously wasn't cheating... that is why he told the lead vehicle/press truck what had happened. That doesn't justify wearing someone else's number, but I am all too familiar with race directors like this one: they have no concept of the elite level of our sport and completely neglect it. Allen shouldn't have tried to take matters into his own hands, but the RD doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the shed and I am disappointed that Monti felt like it was the time and place for him to wade in. Does anyone really believe that top level elite athlete coordinators are not guilty of anything worse than what Allen did?
Why are americans obsessed with the weather?
Why do real runners need certain weather conditions in order to be successful?
Other countries athletes just get on with the job and win!!!
Put up, shut up and discipline yourselves to workout in any climate- thats what international athletes do all the time!
Stop being so fussy!

I was done on this topic, but my butt had something else to say. Here's your (negative) press this 2:18 guy has
http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20080430/news_1s30ljhalf.htmlYo, listen folks. I know Allen personally. He is from Hawaii. He took a chance on trying to adapt to a different training approach and different training weather. Yes it has worked for Sell and Morgan and a bunch of others. And that's great. But going from Hawaii to San Diego to Rochester Hills, MI is a bit of a change. For some it works fine, for others, not so much. Also, his girlfriend lived halfway across the country, so that didn't bode well either. Stone: get a clue...if you don't know the guy, don't waste your typing skills by trying to slam a guy you don't know. It didn't work out, and that's that. Stag: if you had a choice to train in San Diego with your girlfriend or leave your girlfriend and train in sub-zero Michigan, where would you go?
Ok see your point. But in reply to your question I would consider asking my girlfriend to move to Michigan because Hansons is a great opportunity to join a dedicated team with hard coaches, plus the weather will prepare me for any harsh winter xc venues. Best of both worlds eh?
I don't know the guy that well, but have run a couple of times in groups that he ran with. Didn't particularly impress me as a 120 watt bulb, more like a dim bulb, but definitely fast. The jackass got himself disqualified from the same race two years in a row, lied to the race organizers and press present and had his free ride to the NYCM revoked because of what he did. I hope he's learned something from the experience, but he certainly made a lot of local people conclude that he's a jerk and no credit to the running community.
Someone has some repressed anger.

Nothing repressed about it.

Does he have to be a 120 watt bulb?
Isn't 100 watts enough?
Where and when did he get fast?
I never heard of him when he was at Konawaena H.S. on the big island.
From the blogs on flo track it seems like a lot of the Hansons guys and gals are pretty sick of the weather and bad footing. Sounds like a few got injured pretty bad from falling due the slick roads.
One member of the team got hit by a car this past winter also.

Why do most of the Kenyans that come to America train in Albuquerque or Flagstaff? The Mexican food?
Why do most blacks prefer the south? It is familiar to them.
