He hasn't done much racing and therefore talking in the last 6 months because he hasn't "smashed" anyone for quite some time.
We do have examples from the past year though.

He just 'smashed' Feleke in an outdoor 5k a couple of weeks ago, but you didnt hear him talking up how he was gonna smash him again in Valencia...
I believe that 7:34 and the American all-comers record (Boston Indoor Games) counts as a smashing during this indoor season.
Mottram needs to join up with big Jos. Then he'll get his times down.

As of late, Mottram's had just as many bad races as Webb, but he never gets the same shit for inconsistency.
Before the start of the 3000 this weekend one of the announcers said "Mottram is built more like a bouncer than a 3000m runner! He's 6'3", 159 lbs.!" I know they were using hyperbole, but come on. Who would be afraid of a bouncer who's built like that? I'm guessing Mottram can bench press about 180 tops.

Maybe someone with common sense in Melbourne can lend Mottram an ear and remind him that in fact he has been dropped in a 5k recently and that there were more than seven athletes at the bell lap in Osaka--unfortunately he wasn't one of them.

Because he would not shut up about how he beat kenenisa bekele in an even meaningless race at the world cup 3k. In the world cup 3k not the world champs or olympics where he gets owned by bekele. it is just a fact the dude needs to do less talking with his mouth and more with his feet.
Yeah, I'm with the anti-Mottram crowd, he talked too much shit last year and choked BIG time in the outdoor Worlds. That was his BIG chance to win gold (he was running great all year, the Africans were having a sub-par year, etc), and he blew it. What happened to his "balls" ?? Was he castrated or something? he then ran several more subpar races the rest of 2007, and then came up with a dozen different excuses on why he choked in Japan: first it was his hamstring, then we heard he was sick, and then he ran too many races, and on and on. And now he was talking confidently about this race, and again: when the pressure came, he faded badly. He apparently is just not a big-race runner. He doesn't have balls, but is a talented headcase. China will be hot as hell and humid, NOT good conditions for a big guy. And he is now doubting himself and the africans like T bekele are running better than last year. I think he missed his big chance in 2007 and it is very unlikely he can win in 2008, or even medal.

He was talking about the melbourne 5k...there were at most 2 others with him at the bell..
well obviously mottram would not say this as he is only talking after interviews... so it makes sense for his coach..
