It's stellar, probably has to do with coaching.
Similar thing with Chass Armstrong last year. His HS pr was like 4:40ish and he ran the equivalent of 4:13 roughly.

It has nothing to do with coaching, and everything to do with finding, hunting, and harvesting the milk of marsupials. It may not sound like it, but just catching the little critters necessitates running pretty fast through the scenic forests of Trinity University.
Remember, if you want to start training this way, you have to catch the marsupials yourself. It won't do you any good to just buy the stupid store brand stuff. It's got to be natural, and it's got to be fresh.
So what i am getting from this whole conversation is that marsupial milk is some inside joke and most likely a code name for some performance enhancing substance/cocktail...
For the uneducated:
I believe that wing man up there was suggesting that marsupial milk is a code name for some illegal drugs. And i really dont see how posting the wikipedia link to Marsupials is a very useful reply to that post, because his post doesnt imply he is uneducated however you missing the point of the post shows that i wont use the word uneducated i will use words that you ACTUALLY may understand and say that you dont seem too bright. Everyone knows what a marsupial is, sports physiologist..... maybe you should study marsupial physiology. The question is not what a marsupial is, but whether or not these guys are taking illegal drugs and whether that is the reason for success...
Guys, come on. This is D3 track. No one takes illegal drugs.
let's just start accusing all the conference leaders of using steroids. How about Norris from Southwestern, or MacRini from Trinity???? Oh wait you can't leave out Chrys Jones from Centre...that 50 foot triple jump is quite suspicious.....
1.the trinity guys aren't taking performance enhancing drugs and if they were they'd get checked at Nationals and that would be the end of it. but you might want to keep a close eye on them at conferencefor anything suspicious
2.Still not 1 guys has broken 15 in the 5k (not even close) and it is now 3 weeks before conference, the closest we have is a 15:26...still waiting for the 4 random guys.
3..another standout performance this past weekend would be lauren reich from depauw with a nat'l qualifying 1500m...
looks like depauw (1 girl) and trinity (2guys 1 girl) are the only teams so far who've gotten some distance nat'l qualifiers on the board to represent scac...
well the only reason i say that is bc i know a guy who is a d3 track runner who takes stuff. and what about d3 football players you think none of those guys are on something, or high school wrestlers, like some people take sports very seriously and i agree with you these guys are prob not, but i just wanted to know peoples opinions on it, because as we have seen some significant drops in times and just bc it is d3 doesnt rule it out. what do others think?
The conversation has nothing to do with all the conference winners, because not all of them ran 437 and 201 in hs and have dropped to 357 (1500) and 151 the next year. so it is not just because they are running well, but bc they have dropped so much. That is why people are wondering....
I think that any D3 athlete who takes illegal drugs is an idiot.
C9, it doesn't matter because I am going to win high point award this year, and so all cheating that trinity does will not help them.
oh ok.
Instant Breakfast, no one else made any accusations of illegal drug usage. It's just you. Some Trinity guys were obviously making a joke as they have a few other times on this thread. I personally didn't find the whole marsupial thing very funny, but I didn't throw a hissy fit. You obviously take yourself way, way too seriously. And you clearly haven't run 3:54 or 1:51 yourself, or you wouldn't be so quick to accuse everyone. Jealousy is very easy to detect, especially on letsrun.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say the guy who posted the milk stuff is from trinity, as is the guy who posted as "little chassy". Why don't you ask them what they're doing, instead of coming off as a pathetic little cry baby. And if you're going to accuse someone of making too big of an improvement, why don't you accuse Julian Boggs of CC, who I believe made an even more ridiculous improvement from high school (10:xx 2 mile to 14:30ish 5k).
The problem is the huge jumps in time in one year. And Boggs went from 16:45 to 15:24 in a year and a half, only because he wasn't training in high school. So the question is why was a guy who had the talent to run 1:51 only training hard enough to run a 2:00, especially given that he had a high school teammate running 1:52's.
Well Boggs dropping that much time is still pretty unbelievable, especially since I have heard he does coke...
Guys I will give you all a little bit of perspective here as to put an end to all of this.
First I will start with my teammate and good friend Zach Brush.
In High school, Zach was a soccer player who ran XC. He never ran more than 15 miles a week and played soccer. He ran in the 16:xx lows in xc and was even in the top 15 at Oklahoma state meet. He has natural talent. In track Zach's coaches did not have him do base work. He did short style intervals to develop speed. His actual 800 open PR was 1:58, which he ran twice. He also ran 1:55.XX on his state winning 4x800 meter relay. NOW zach has excellent coaching he runs in the 50-60 mpw week range and combined with his natural talent and hard work ethic has run 1:51.97. Really Improving about 4-5 seconds is a solid improvement, but not unthinkable.
As for Myself, In HS my PRs were 4:37, 10:08 and 17:17. But what you have to realize is, I too came from a relatively low mileage high school team. I only really ran 30ish miles per week in those days. Other important information you would have to know would be that as a sophomore I ran 4:39. I actually just underachieved my last two years of HS. Bitter about not being fast in HS I decided that I would really start to train the summer before Fresh year. I saw little successes here and there and it inspired me to go farther and train even harder. The Coaching at Trinity is amazing. They really have taught and are teaching our team how to become fast if they are willing to work hard outside of themselves, and doing stuff that they normally wouldn't do. It isn't magic or anything silly or illegal It's hard work and an offseason with 8 weeks averaging OVER 90 miles a piece and being Blessed to not have had any injurys that has gotten me where I am. That is all I have to say.
I hope that everyones training goes well and that you perform to the best that you can.
Peace and Love,
Chass Armstrong
Chass, I said it once, and I will say it again. You truly are my hero! Well said sir!
