no, lagat and kipchirchir will test positive for EPO that they got in Italy while training in Europe, after beating Webb in the final, who will in turn receive a tainted yet satisfying golden medal.

doesn't anyone remember the ease with which lagat won both races at worlds last summer? he executed perfectly in both, and is much more savvy and proven than most others in the field. he also has yet to be beaten in the olympics by anyone other than sub-3:44 milers.

Had he stayed in the NCAA system for a few more years, he'd have that championship background. Especially the part about saving himself through the rounds.
nope.
had he stayed in the ncaa, one of two things would have happened:
1) he would've trained to the best of his ability, and been lightyears beyond 2nd place, thus leaving him with STILL no valid racing experience, or
2) he would've been trained poorly, and had competition within the ncaa, but he would be a lesser runner for it.
while not the right move for everyone, going pro early was the right move for webb.

I dunno, Webb has never demonstrated the ability to run a good tactical race, at least not that I'm aware of.
I'm not disagreeing. If you're capable of running faster than anyone else in the world, then it's your race to lose (via tactics, of course).
I do, however, think he gets too much crap for his tactics. He's made a few big blunders, but I think most people who criticize him have not competed seriously in the mile after high school. It's a crazy race, and the best man doesn't always win.
if webb could run 44.8 for the 400m he would SMASH the 800m world record ya dope
800m - 1:44.6
1500m - 3:35.10 to win olympics
3000m - 7:38.63
olympic GOLD
i agree with the previous posters who state that webb will not be chasing times this year. he may run a few races fast, in the 3:30-3:32 range, but it might be highly unlikely that he goes after PR's BEFORE the olympics. he now knows that he has 1:43 and 3:30 speed to go with an AR mile of 3:46. this year is all about the olympics. i wouldn't be suprised to see him go after an 800m PR instead of a 1500, so i'll throw these out there
800m 1:43.2
1500m 3:31
mile - probably not raced but once, or not at all
5000m this is the great unknown. he ran an AR in the 2-mile at PRE and then returned, i think the next year, to run 20-30 seconds slower, albeit with an injury. if he does well in the olympics (a medal) then he takes the AR here as well.
regardless of times, good luck Alan!!!! it is very exciting to watch you race and go after your dreams!

please enlighten us as to why.
I don't understand how anyone could criticize Webb's tactics at Worlds last year. He was perfectly situated for a finishing drive down the straight but simply didn't have it that day and appeared to have hit a peak nearly a month before. If he adjusts his training to arrive in Beijing fresh and ready then I think even in a very similar race he would walk away with a medal, gold even.
I predict that the "Webb ran like a clown" thread will get bumped after both the trials and the games, regardless of how he runs.
I also predict that I'll probably be the one to do this.
For the 5000, i hope Cragg wins, behind Mottram, with Farah getting a medal just behind Bekele, McCormick will be 6th, but probably won't make the final, Lagat will blow up and only just make the podium, with a 52 second last lap, Webb and Ritz will both make the final and run 3.31 and 27.12 respectfully. Jennings will appear in his second olympic appearance 8 year after his first, but will just miss out on the team. Borjazkowski's finish might see him sneak 4th, but he could still be tired from London, and Tergat will finally win the one he's been chasing, but Geb will nip him on the line!!!!
Speaking of nips, i don't think the chinese will have the impact they desire, Liu won't win, he'll hit the last barrier, and be run out of it by Kipchoge in 8.08!!!
800 - 1:44.
1500 - 3:29.0-ish
Mile - tough to say since he'll be in peak shape for the 1500, but maybe depending on the race 3:49
5000 - if he runs it, won't be a pr....1500 olympic year
Olympic Trials - 2nd
Olympics - broad guess, but top 3 somewhere
The only way Webb medals is if he moves up to 5000 and drops the hammer over the last mile and especially the last 800 in a tactical race. It doesn't matter that he may end up being the fastest miler in the world yet again this year. He will lose a tactical mile every time to the guys with pure speed.
You might be right regarding the doper Ramzi. Go away.
I think Webb showed in Worlds that he is getting the hang of rounds and strategy and he is in fact very close to medal contention, and I believe Webb will medal in the 1500 at Bejing.
He will run a fast 5000 (sub 13) this spring but no AR.
I'm not saying that Webb can't get himself into medal contention, but when push comes to shove (pun intended), he cannot go with the best closers with 200 to go. He definitely has acquired a lot more experience with championship-type racing, but if he EVER wants a gold medal, he needs to move to the 5000. I don't care if he runs a 3:45 mile this year; there are still guys that will run him down in the stretch. But, perhaps he will nudge in there for a bronze.
If Webb makes an Olympic final, Razcko will probably have to sit on his chest to stop him from hyperventilating.
It's great DyeStat fodder--what will Webb do in the Olympics this year--kind of like will Britney get pregnant again this year? But most of you are so far off in your predictions, it's hilarious. It's extremely doubtful Webb will be able to maintain self-control to run a competitive Olympic final, much less run the life out of the field.

So we have cragg winning, but behind Mottram. Farah getting a medal behind Bekele and Lagat still somehow getting the fifth spot on a podium that only has three spots.
That's one crowded podium.
