running is about guts, but it's also about genetics and limitations. if he ran 3:03 for a 1200 this week it would be an excellent race. that's not to say he shouldn't shoot to run faster in the future, but, and i quote, a "big boot up the jacksy from the coach", no matter who the coach is, is not going to inspire that kind of improvement unless one of the two above criteria has been met.
your post would be far more appropriate for a football message board, where random chance and desperation to prove masculinity plays a larger part in results.
