While I do not think this quote is true, I do know for a fact the following is true.

Men's sports fund womens sports on all levels.

Think about it. Mens football on D1 level usually fund all other sports - ALL others. Georgia footbal alone brins in over 12 million $$ net per year. The girls basketball team operates in the red. How do they stay aflost? By getting $$ from the very program they complain about. It's true in all big time D1 programs - even Tennessee.

Now, look at the WNBA. You would think the professional ballplayers would no longer need the help of men right? Wrong! The WNBA operates in the red in over 50% of all it's cities. How does it stay afloat? The NBA of course.

Once again, the men's sport funds the women - the very same women that complain.

The best five basketball players in any male group of people who work out regularly (Letsrun, Boothbay Harbor YMCA, etc) could easily beat UNC. All they would have to do is set picks , rebound, and make layups,. Also the women wouldn't be able to shoot or pass effectively if they used a regulation (men's) sized ball.By the way, basketball, more than any other sport, shows how much slower and weaker women in general are compared to men, mainly because the ball itself is too big for their hands, and too heavy to pass in a straight line rather than a lob. The WNBA uses a smaller ball, but it is still too big and too heavy, and if it were any smaller, it would look like a volleyball.Also, I would be remiss to not mention how nasty and unfeminine most of the players look(compare to the new breed of female golfers). You can say how looks don't matter, but it is the way of the world. This is why the first female president will have to look totally different from the fat, old, and haggard Clinton. Forgive me for sounding shallow, but I'm trying to be sincere.

I think pro women are talented players with a grasp on basketball fundamentals. I think if a young girl wants to play ball on a team with her friends in grade school or high school more power to her. I think that any DI or DII college women's player would school anyone on this board in hoops and I think there are some attractive players. Tennessee had a couple on last years championship team.

Women's basketball, along with nearly all women's sports, is boring as hell. Most men find it hard to watch "professionals" play a sport at a level inferior to most HS (male) athletes. I remember in 7th grade watching the HS varsity girls game and thinking "shit, I'm the worst player on my 7th grade 'B' team and I'm better than all these chicks."

Unlike some other LR posters here, I don't think women's sports should be less interesting to watch because they might run slower, jump lower, whatever than the male athletes. Who cares because they are competing against other women, NOT against the men! As long as the level of competition is high and the level of play is high, then a fan of the sport should be able to enjoy it.

I enjoy women's volleyball, tennis, etc. I have watched some women's college basketball however, and though I've heard people said the fundamentals in the women's game are better, the evidence says differently. Well, maybe I haven't watched enough, but the games I watched I was surprised how poorly they played basketball.

Their shot selection was poor, their shot making skills were very bad ignoring the fundamentals of how to shoot a basket, the floor spacing was not good, boxing out for rebounds was poor, there is poor ability to run a fast break in the college women's game. I am shocked when I see these things on TV as the women's game has the rep of being better in the fundamentals. BUT maybe I have only turned on the TV when poor teams were playing.

i would agree with you on women's volleyball and tennis.

there are some hot wenches in those sports and they dress like nasty hos!

As for my opinion:

Just because somebody isn't entertained by women's bb doesn't mean that they hate women or think they should stop playing - true distance runners don't run to entertain and could really not give two farts weather people know about what they're really accomplishing anyways - the general public doesn't know the real difference between a 4:45 miler and a 3:45 miler.

With that said - Women's basketball blows.

I have enjoyed watching women's basketball both in high school and in college. In high school our girls team was a perennial state championship contender. I was friends with a bunch of the girls and went to the games and ended up going tot he state tournament that year. It was a blast. In college we had an excellent team and went to the Final 4 when I was a second year. A couple of friend and I used it as an excuse to road trip. We had a lot of fun watching the game. I knew a couple of the women on the team a little bit.

That said, I have no interest in watching a WNBA game or any other women's game unless I had a personal connection. I agree that the game is not very aesthetically pleasing.
