I have only run 4 marathons so far, 2:16 being the best. My v02 max is 84, can I get down to 2:12 with my ultimate career goal a sub 2:10. I can run 120-140 mpw no problem once I get going and I haven't been injured in years. What do you think?

Of course. Why are you asking?
vo2 max means didly squat
what it does show is that your effeciency is crap-paul tegrats vo2 is 85 and he ran 2:04:55
hills, drills, miles
You know a decent runner comes on here and nobody can come up with some useful comments, all these people who write everyday what fast runners should be doing and what they should not be doing because they know exactly what runners should be doing and I come on here and all of a sudden these posters are silent. You can comment on what it takes to run 18 minutes for 5km and 3 hours for a marathon but when I come on here to see if I can get an honest answer all I get in crap. Thanks.
Is there anyone on this bored with something useful to contribute?
I'm board with this bored.
I bored a drill into my skull I was so bored with this board.
Of course the op can get to 2:12. Just pound out 120-140 at 6 min per mile, throw in a day of mile repeats in 4:25-4:30 and do a day of hills. Seems to work for all the other 2:12 marathoners.
Your 10-K and half-marathon times would provide some clues. A 2:12 marathon is similar to a 63 minute half or a 28:20 10-K by one popular conversion formula*. However, if your body performs better as the distance gets longer, a 64 minute half or a 28:40 10-K could still get you close to 2:12.
A good example is Rod DeHaven: 28:06.25 / 62:40 / 2:11:40. The 62:40 half predicts 2:11:34, just six seconds different than his actual PB.
But Ryan Hall gets better as the distance gets longer. His 10,000m PB of 28:07.93 is only eqivalent to a 2:11:18 marathon, but he's run 2:08:24. Interestingly, his 59:43 half-marathon is equivalent to a 2:05:22 marathon. He's definitely got a lot of potential to run faster for the marathon!
What do your 10-K and half-marathon times look like?
Respectfully,
David Monti, Race Results Weekly

I don't need a training plan and I don't care who you are that replies I am just interested in some opinions.
I run 1:05:20 for the half and 29:10 for 10 km, nothing that quick.
you pretty much need to identify yourself to be taken seriously with those times. Most people will call BS and not take you seriously unless you let us know who you are.

Do you need an ego boost or something?? Are you looking for a bunch of normal runners to tell you how amazing you are for running 2.16?
Surely if you've run that fast you should know that wasting your time on a message board isn't going to help you run faster.
Its not like Paula Radcliffe's going to come on here and explain to you how she would whip your butt!
Assuming you're legit, then just keep doing what you're doing. Keep running 120+ miles per week, and as your body adapts to the workload, slowly add more work at marathon pace or faster. If you stay healthy, there's no reason you shouldn't run between 2:12-2:15 over the next few years. If you run those times in fairly big marathons (like NYC or Chicago), that ought to get you some sponsorship.
Finally, joining one of the elite post-collegiate groups (like Hansens or McMillan) would give you access to a lot more knowledge and insight than you're likely to find on this board.

You are either a troll or a major league a-hole. You are just interested in opinions of any average joe on how fast you could run a marathon? How could that information possibly be more useful to you than what you already know? You don't care "who you are that replies"? You are "just interested in some opinions?"
Here's my opinion: You're a dick. Do you want a second opinion? You're ugly.

dude, you're getting your knickers in a twist because people advise more on how to run a sub-18 5k than a sub 2:12 marathon, well isn't it obvious? I mean many more people have done A than B, and if you've done 2:16 your training must be optimal and your talent huge so if you can't get faster on more of the same you've probably maxed out.
anyway, unless you say who you are nobody's going to believe you.
Hi Dave,
Say hi to Jane. You guys do a tremendous job with NY. Just unbelieveable. Unlike any other race we've ever been to. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Actually I'd prefer to remain anonymous on here. :)
So how'd you do at the trials?
Yeah - a 2:16 marathoner is going to go to a msg board to ask if we think he can do it. Give me a f#cking break.
I can't believe the # of people who took this serious.
And the jealousy comes out. Seriously the guy has a point, people love coming on here and saying "This is what I did to break 17:30" and stuff, but everyone gets all defensive when a fast dude comes on here looking for help. News flash, being fast doesn't mean you have all the answers to what it takes to get to the next level (whatever that level may be). There is definitely a lot of resentment toward fast guys who look for training advice, and as someone who is neither particularly fast nor looking for advice myself I don't have any reason to be biased.
If you have useful suggestions, maybe you've done a lot of reading on what's worked for elite athletes when they were at that level, go ahead and keep posting. The others of you crying "troll" or "why are you making fun of me?!?!" are probably just jealous dbags.
High-end version of the "how long is the Boston Marathon?" troll. Slightly more imaginative but no less pathetic.

Honestly, this person is going to alter what he has been doing based off the opinions of people on a thread? he has run 2:16 thus far, not exactly a pedestrian time, so with those credentials i'm sure there are many options open. He could contact the hanson brooks people, maybe send an email to wejo, he could go to a local running club that has some solid runners. All of which are better options. No, this guy is either good and likes to let everyone know about it or he's a jackass who had too much time on his hands and decided to make up this thread.
Now i've already wasted my time on this so i guess he wins.
Peace, make love not war.
