considered by some as "the best little marathon" in the country. Good support, rolling course with fast finish. Low thrills, low cost, but also low hassles at the start.
That is a funny name for a thon.
Run it twice the last 2 years. It's a very well organized fast course- not crowded.
Go to marathonguide.com for reviews and info on other races.
I haven't run a 'Thon but I'm not far from that area. The best place to check for info would be the message boards at Neparunner.com
I ran it. It was a great marathon. The details (mile markers, splits, water stops, start time, transportation to the start) all went flawlessly. No crowds, as mentioned previously--only about 2000 finishers. They had an inside starting area (I was only outside about 5 minutes before the gun). The course loses 900 feet of elevation. Much of that comes in the first 7 miles, so you have to hold back to not trash your quads. There are a couple of uphills at the 22nd and 26th mile--the hills aren't that bad but the place on the course makes them challenging. I highly recommend it to anybody unless they don't want to do an aided marathon.
I've run it twice and second the comments of Mr. Obvious. Great marathon, no hassles. It's fast if you run it right, but the early downhills can tempt you into going out too fast. I speak from experience.
It's just a long downhill run. If you're looking for a race that produces legitimate marathon times, take a pass on Steamtown.

Steamtown will not pass muster as an approved course for a men's OT qualifier.
