dude i got a bag of cookies...a tin with trail mix in it...and a coffee mug with hershey kisses...im not feeling bad about not getting them anything....
Bring in a box of candy or some homemade cookies or brownies. Or a fruit basket. Attach a card, open it up, and put it in a public place where everyone can enjoy it.
only if YOU are the only jackass that is NOT doing it. If no one else is doing it or only a few people, then it's no big deal. But, I would get a gift for anyone who gave me one.

Its not about the gifts. Man you really don't get the office politics do you?
50 people in my office - 6 in my group/department including me.
5 x $5.50 for a nice looking box of candy from Seattle Chocolate - that good will goes a long way.
kind of not in your defense you are a dumbass - get with the program buckwheat - if you don't get it, there isn't much help for you.
maybe you could make up some phony charity, then announce that you have made a donation in their names a la george costanza? - you seem like that kind of guy.

How much do I value gifts from my coworkers? Who cares? It is how much you value the quality of your work life that matters. Like several people have stated, If you KNOW that it is customary to exchange in your office, then you do it, case closed.
There are a lot of things I don't like in my office, like they make us volunteer to help battered women's shelters and homes for runaway children by painting them and doing yardwork and general housework there ... on ... wait for it ... the weekend.
We don't get paid for it, we don't get anything for it. But it has been made clear that you must attend these "volunteer" events or else. It is called Global Volunteer Day, and it used to occur on a weekday and we all got to leave work to do this. They decided that it was costing the company too much to use an entire day of every employees time for something that doesn't produce money, so they decided to spend the employees time instead.
Mother F***ers ...
And you are too cheap to buy some presents for three people.
Amazing.
If everyone else is doing it, I'd say you should too. If you were in an office with a large number of people and a few were doing the gift thing, It'd be fine to not do it, but if 3 out of 3 other workers are doing it, you'll look like an ass for not doing it.
No. Anyone who takes the "holidays" seriously is an idiot.
Tell them you named a star for them.
