bump again. Anything on this girl? That era of Cali/West girls was outstanding but with the exception of Bei and Fleshman, none of them ever pursued pro running (Siraki, Trotter, Craig for her unfortunate circumstances, Zeigles)
BUMP bump!
I saw an interview for Amber Trotter last year but I guess that's it. She ever run another marathon?

Damn they were hot, I remember many threads on these two back in the day. Then one of them started dating a football player and Xfit_the_real_one began his metamorphosis to get her back. Now here we are today.
Here is a great Amber Trotter article.

Trotter has always stood out to me as the female equivalent of Ritz: the greatest HS XC runner ever. I don't know as much about more modern girls than her, so perhaps someone has surpassed her by now. But I suspect that she could beat any HS girl in their peak vs. her peak in XC. Same with Ritz and any other HS guy.
Ritz did it without an ED.

You don't really know that for sure.
Did they not have the timing set up in time for her crossing the finish line? I could not find an Amber Trotter in the results. It showed a Brie Oakley of Colorado as the first finisher.
Great video... notice Molly Huddle in 2nd "elegant track runners stride" picked up by the commentator back then, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMrOOeMhPTA
Well, maybe you are right except the part where her coach says "Everybody knows about her anorexia problem.".

I assume the poster meant Ritz could have had an ED. Not that Trotter didn't have one.

she had her eating disorder her junior year of xc. she did bad at FLN and then took a lot of time off to get better. she came back to XC better than ever, and then after running a couple of all comers meets was diagnosed with a stress fracture. i know for a fact if she wouldnt have gotten injured the national 2mile/3200 and 5k indoor and outdoor records would probably have her name all over it.
I disagree, I was in Orlando for that race and Amber looked to be about 5' 8" and well under 100 pounds. It wasn't just her weight, but her arms and shoulders had that look of an ED. There are a lot of great runners who were thin like Kim Gallagher and Zola Budd for example, but they looked natural and actually gained a little weight each year, whereas Amber looked like she got smaller each year. If Amber was healthy in her senior year, I can't imagine what she looked like as a junior. I think Amber admitted herself that she was still battling an ED in her senior year and knew she could not continue, which played a role in her decision to turn down scholarship offers and put on some weight.
With that said, I agree with a poster who said that Amber would have won Footlocker in any era. Amber absolutely dominated Footlocker in a year when all of the top girls were in the race. Under difference circumstances, Amber could have run sub-16. That Orlando course was very slow, the athlete I was there to support was 29 seconds off of this regional time which was run on a tough course.
Amazing to see how few of those runners panned out even in college. Molly being buried by future no-names (though Roetter was hella cute). Solinsky gets his name misspelled in results and Rupp was about tenth as a soph, I think.
Molly went on to set AJR for 5000m the next year, so she seemed to run better on the track, as Tony insinuated.

The resurgence in distance running started at the high school level in the late 90s. For the most part, kids started running more mileage and the internet created a lot of interest and gave them a way to see what their competitors were doing. The high school boys and girls were running faster, but there was also a string of really skinny girls like Amber Trotter, Caitlin Chock, Ashley Brasovan, Allie McLaughlin, Aislinn Ryan, Katelyn Kaltenbach, Megan Goethals, etc. - The list is long. It seemed like it started with Kim Mortensen, who was super thin and really fast, perhaps that's what all of the high school girls figured was the secret. Unfortunately, Kim and most of the really thin girls never did much beyond high school. Some of those girls like Ashley Brasovan and Caitlin Chock for example were so thin that I can't understand how a coach or parent could not have noticed. Most of the healthy looking girls like Shalane Flanagan and Kara Groucher for example, were the one who ended up having long careers.

Am I the only one who thinks Amber Trotter running form a lot like The Black Cactus - Abdi?
Also, Orlando course does not look fast to me. LOTS of little rises and undulations to break up the rhythm.
How say u?

Yeah, I see it. "Hunch and shuffle".
She broke Sara Bei's (Hall) record by over a half minute. 16:10 on that course is ridic. Gotta be something like 15:30 or better on the track.
