Trotter took it out in I believe 5:05 and won. Not only did she win, but she didn't die. If she'd taken it out in 5:15, she probably would've run close to sub 16. Trotter's 2001 season was quite possibly the greatest HS XC season of all time, male or female.

True dat. Too bad it was the result of an eating disorder. Shows how much women can benefit from suppressing their female hormones though.
she had her eating disorder her junior year of xc. she did bad at FLN and then took a lot of time off to get better. she came back to XC better than ever, and then after running a couple of all comers meets was diagnosed with a stress fracture. i know for a fact if she wouldnt have gotten injured the national 2mile/3200 and 5k indoor and outdoor records would probably have her name all over it.

i should have stated that differentely i forget people on letsrun are nit picky about every last sentence and word. when looking at her xc season. going through the first mile in under 5:10 at probably every race and through 2 miles at aorund 10:30-10:40. i feel that during the spring campaign she would have def. been in the 9:30-9:35 range for 2 miles and 15:40ish range for 5k. sorry for the confusion.
Just save the hyperbole for those who are even a little impressed by it.

I agree with this. She would've smashed the HS record in the 3200, no doubt about it. And that is a very strong record.
Off topic a little, but I believe her sister just got 4th at club nationals. And she is very good looking as well!
Wrong Trotter. Amber Trotter was from California; Katy and Amanda Trotter were from NJ. One of the twins raced club nationals.
Where is Trotter at today and how is she doing? Anybody know?
she recently graduated college, doesnt run competitively anymore and i havent seen any road random 5/10ks from her in time. shes living her life just like any other normal person in the world i assume.

5:04 first mile for a 16:24 is just about as ridiculous as Hasay's first mile.

nice find...anyone have a description of the orlando course and how it compares to san diego? ive heard that the orlando course is really fast
2001's race was in Orlando and 2007 was at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego. Not having seen the Orlando course, I assume it was flatter and better footing than Morley Field
From what I've heard and seen in pictures, the course in Orlando was definitely faster than the one in San Diego. It was on a golf course, so the foot was better and there weren't any major hills. But, there were some small rolling hills that tended to throw off a runner's rhythm, so it still wasn't the fastest course around.
That shouldn't freak you out at all. Look back at old results- it is the norm.
Yeah its pretty much always been that way.
Not getting injured is an important element to a successful running career. Giving this girl credit for records she never broke is a disservice to the entire sport. There are a lot of has-beens and never-weres who can claim that if they had just kept their shit together, they could have done X, Y and Z. It doesn't work that way. You can't claim success that you never had because you couldn't keep your body in one piece.
