40 yo male
Earlier this week, I had a cardiac stress test. Basically, I ended up going to the max that the machine and test would go to ... "Level 7" 20% grade and 6 mph. The doctor knew that I was in shape and we skipped to level 2. Long story short, it took ~15 min for me to get up to ~170 to 172, I still had "gas left in the tank" and was working hard, but didn't feel like I was maxed out. With this in mind, the max HR that I reached was ~172. Based on this info, what would you estimate my max HR to be? Seems like it might be [220 - age] plus a few beats. ... even if 220 - age were off by 4-5 beats, it would still be accurate within +/- 2%.
