Why am I feeling "high" after running? Like I am on drugs.
What happens chemicaly in the body?

Anandamide is created during exercise and is absorbed by the brains cannabinoid receptor, the same receptor that absorbs delta 9 THC in marijuana.
Endorphins are also created in the brain, which have similar properties to the opiate morphine.
I too get a runners high and in my opinion, it definitely feels like a light marijuana/opiate buzz. I've been using weed for over 4 years and was using oxycodone and heroin for a while (year and a half), so it's not as if I don't have experience with these chemicals. I may be more attuned to the feeling because of this and a greater number of opiate receptors in my brain, but I think most runners can accomplish this high.
Wow.
Damn straight. It was a crazy time in my life, but I learned a lot about myself and a counter/subculture. Plus, when you hit a bottom, you can really only go up from there, and with a greater appreciation.
The runners high is one of the greatest natural highs to get, imo. A bit unfortunate not enough people can notice it.
I've been clean and sober almost thirteen years and i get a good runners high when i run. One would think if one were smoking dope and doing heroin and drinking alot then.therefore, since the brain is getting these highs all the time then the runners high would probably be greatly decreased or non existent.
Why would you think that? I didn't mention drinking either, btw.
I don't believe the tolerances to have any cross over effect. If anything I would think smoking weed helps further develop the cannabinoid receptor, making the running high feel better. I'd also think that vice versa would be true, and running would help use/develop the cannabinoid receptor allowing further enjoyment from marijuana.
I'm not entirely sure of endorphins methods of action, but an opiate user will have more opiate receptors in their brain than a non-user. It's what causes tolerance and withdrawal. Over time, with continued use, the opiate user will further develop receptors and then when there isn't enough the drug or none at all, the developed receptors don't get the needed chemicals and therefore the person starts to withdrawal.
Besides, tolerance goes down over time.
I thought marijulogist started this thread until I took a closer look...
