I have been a runner for a long time, but this fall when I was training I was at higher mileage in preparation for a marathon, and I was scared at how hungry I was all the time. I had these insane cravings for peanut butter, and the last few miles of my long runs were usually spent hallucinating about some particular food that I wanted as soon as I was finished. I never felt full. I ate a lot of bananas with peanut butter, like three bowls of cereal or oatmeal a day, granola bars, and nuts. I think when you're training so hard that you get these cravings you should just indulge yourself, because it's not even really indulging yourself, because your body is telling you it needs MORE.
Now I'm barely training and I eat like half as much as I used to. And my peanut butter consumption has dropped precipitously.
If you need some ideas, here is a ten page thread about what people like to eat with their peanut butter. Do not read it before you go out for a run.
