So I'm training for indoor track season right now. On some days our coach has us do a workout where we'll do something like this: 3x400 on the track - then mileage (8 or 9 or so) - then 3x300 cutdowns. I'd like to know, how should I treat the mileage? Should I do the mileage hard to kind of complete the "toughness" of the day? Or should I take it easier in order to recover from the 400's and stay fresher for the 300s (the 400s aren't very taxing). Usually I'll have a recovery run the next day too.
My workouts will get harder as the season progresses, but regardless, how should that run inbetween the track work be treated?
