it did have mostly to do with the angle change.
would the rope still have been split if he used an angle they were more used to using or setting up for?
i think the condition of the rope had a least a little to do with it. from what i read anyway. even though it was a high quality rope, the kind he said they used on everest and other extreme conditions, it had been exposed for quite some time. would a new rope have cut? maybe, maybe not.
tragic nonetheless.
he should have listened to his friends and not done the jump. from what i read, they had talked him out of it. but when he went to the site to dismantle their setup, he saw how much time and energy went into setting everything up, and decided to go for it.
ultimately, though, Dan Osman killed Dan Osman, i think. this sort of thing is dangerous, and he knew it. thrill seeking needs to end sometime. im sure he contemplated things alot, especially since he had a wife and a young daughter.
