Accepting that, you presumably also accept that it applies equally to Horsefield. Being called a jock in a race wouldn't bother most Scottish people but the other word apparently used is equally inexcusable. Perhaps the reaction Horsefield received will also encourage him to grow up or find another sport.
Just to clear things up a bit, Simon did not say anything to Conor. There was a lot of pushing and pulling going on from everyone and Conor reacted badly to it.
no going to take the bait but...
1-his the same age as me and
2- i dont even run no more and havent done for a good 2 years
im not jelous of simon and never will be if your going be jelous of someone then it would have to be fozza. his a legend.

thriving on it
spell the name right ;)
i might add myself again on here as a different user and hide behind a name.......
And this is the next generation of Britains distance runners?
And we wonder why we are so far behind other nations?
People are testifying that Connor is a decent guy (can't tell you either way), people are saying Horsefield is upset about it and didnt say or do anything blah blah(read that he has got a bit of an attitude).
Fact of the matter is a so-called decent guy doesnt give someone a smack without provocation and i think a little shove going round the corner during a race isnt classed as provocation so there is more too it. Maybe Simon thought he could get away with shooting his mouth off or poncing about during the trial cos no-one would shut him up - purely an indea.
That being said it doesnt excuse it any violent reaction but with a bit of luck its taught the pair of them a lesson in effect costing them both a GB vest.
Disagree. I am friends with good few English guys and girls. Ongoing light hearted banter about our countries. But whenever having a disagreement with few of them then its my 'Scottishness' that they chose to attack.
English people might say they dont care but its right there under the surface. Which is why the Sun/Mail/Express is able to sell so many papers by making sh*t up about the Scots getting more financially out of the union etc.
Again - lets change teh facts. Someone calls a black person a monkey during the race and said black guy retaliates. I'm thinking the spin on the story would be a lot different.
Fact of the matter is Conor McNulty was one of the top 6 runners in teh race and deserves to get picked.
agreed he should get picked!!!!
things happen in every other sport like this but just because its running its not aloud.
i think too many people see running as a "gentlemans sport" and this kind of thing shoudlnt happen.
next thing connor will be cleaning simons spikes
get a grip
If you were to call a Enlgishman an 'English twat' we would laugh. You may aswell call me a 'running twat'. Where i'm from or what I do we all know the twat bit is what you really want to come accross.... for example :-)
I somehow don't think Simon was trying to degrade Scottish people as a whole. I doubt he was looking down on the Scottish as inferior or not belonging here. This is nothing like calling a black person a monkey.
Infact wait a minute every person i've spoke to about it says Simon didn't even say anything of the sort anyway?
And please will that Todd fellow stop posting illiterate garbage on here. My 4 year old cousin could string together a better reply.
So you are not a runner. Havent run for 2 years? What the bloody hell are you doing on a running site then you little rat boy? Go play somewhere else and dont involve yourself in a topic that you have no clue about or no relevant information to give. The problem with British distance running is having people like you coming on sites like this posting stupid comments when you dont even do the sport........ plonker.
Well thats kind of silly. Perhaps he does not run anymore because he picked up an injury. What athletics need is more people interested - not less.

Whereas I guess you're claiming that in Scotland you wouldn't get any abuse for being English? I've live there and I love Scotland, but I've Scottish friends who will go out and buy the football kit of whoever is playing against England, no-one in England does that about Scotland. It's pretty much a rule of Scottish comedy that you have to make jokes about how the English are all w*nkers. Even though there is genuine animosity towards the English in Scotland we don't take it personally.
Conor's admitted himself that he did the wrong thing but it's harsh to judge him on a 'heat of the moment' action. I agree he shouldn't have done it but from what I hear, Simon deserved what he got. Who the hell does he think he is abusing someone during a race? He's a very talented runner but he ain't all that.
Question:
What do you call an Englishman in the European Championships?
Answer:
Ref
I'll knock u out. Racist c_nt!
y is every1 still talking about this...its happened its over!!! Both where wrong and its gettin a lil old now....
Waaaahhhhhhh.
Just like they knocked out England.
Ha Ha!
So the teams for the Europeans have been revealed- but reading through the names there is a very clear inconsistency with selections.
One question that springs to mind would be why was carly Needham only selected as reserve? The girl runs her guts out, finishes inside the top 6- only to be told, sorry you have not been selected. Yes you could say she is inexperienced, unproven but why have one rule for the men and one for the women? In the mens race the top 6 were selected-- even though ppl in the top 6 have been beat earlier this season by athletes outside that top 6.
Going back to the case of carly needham-- they select clitheroe who dropped out of the race. Yea she is a class athlete, and has proven so for numerous years- but what message is this sending out to the athletes trying to break onto the scene-- "you can run well at the trial-- make the top six, but hey if the guys at UKA dont know you then- sorry but not this year- maybe when you have attended a few training camps- we may give you a vest". That girl must be gutted- and rightly so-- she made the top six and should be given a chance.
Also in the junior mens race- millington finishes 7th- runs well and just misses the team-- only to be told sorry, you are not reserve but the guy who finished 13th/15th is.
I just think that the consistency in selection is poor- it seems that if you dont fit into the "clique" then you may not get a shot- whilst i imagine selection is difficult- there needs to be some feedback to explain certain decisions.

only time will tell....the "wiseman" will be proved wrong.
i maybe younger then you but you have a lot to learn my duckling;)
Feedback would create further discussion/frustration, not progress. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own view.
Selectors shouldn't have to justify their decisions to third parties. They will base decisions on their professional experience, and ultimately their selection can be judged by team performance.
It would not be in the best interest of the National Team to have a blanket selection policy of 'first six past the post selected'. However, in some circumstances the first six athletes may be those judged to be the best for the team.
All athletes have 'off' days and other athletes have proven time and time again that they can peak for the set event.
There will ALWAYS be disapponted athletes/coaches/followers who feel others should have been given a chance. This is fundamental in team sport.
For those not selected, rise above it and prove the selectors wrong. You'll have a stronger chance next time and be a better athlete for it.
