those are all solid reasons, but i think they can be worked out. my biggest concern is that every race is run on a saturday and the athletes will be accustomed to competing every 2 weeks or 2. an extra 2 days can kinda throw it off (so it would seem).
how bout the course where the CA state champs are held? there is a 10k XC course that has not changed there for years. footlocker west used to be held there up until about 1999 or so, and there are abundant hotels and restaurants in the area.
if not that course, how bout Kenneth Hahn park in Los Angeles where the SoCal USATF champs were held last weekend? 4 2k loops can be changed to 5 loops easily. it's in Los Angeles, so hotels, airlines, etc would be easy.
also, there's a former army base in El Toro (right next to Irvine, CA) where the land will be turned into a park. The parks and rec dept (as far as i know) were asking local coaches for advice on how to build an XC course there. (they were actually going to BUILD one--hills, grass, dirt, gravel, whatever). something like that would work. Irvine is close to the john wayne airport in Santa Ana, and has a ton of hotels and restaurants as well. and there's no short order of things to do, places to go, etc in southern CA.
