I really hope they do name a shoe after him. As Asics did with Travis Landreth. I didnt know Ryan but I think he deserves it as he was a great athlete for the company.

He was leaving Saucony from what I was told.
adidas diddnt name one after Van Damme, and Rich "flash in the pan" Kenah got a shoe named after him. It isnt always logical.
I believe the Landreth was designed by a friend of Travis Landreth, and he named the shoe in tribute to him. It wasn't necessarily the company.
Craig Vanderhoff. Who was working for Brooks before the shoe was released.
It's called the
AAAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH
It's a little early for this kind of talk, if that happened it would be awhile away. They have not even had the funeral yet. I at least hope if that did Saucony would give it some time before they try to profit with a running shoe in his name.
Why not make a donation for every shoe sold?
Thanks for posting this question. I work for Saucony and Ryan was a big part of our Saucony family. We had Ryan come to our offices many times to talk about shoes, running and more importantly, to get to know him. He is truly missed here.
I think the running community will be pleased with how we will honor Ryan and his family. Once we have all the details ironed out, we will make sure to fill you in on the details.
Thanks
I respect Saucony for what they've done thus far, stripping their entire website and making the whole thing a tribute page to Ryan? Huge respect for that one, it's a classy move.
If a portion of the proceeds goes to a memorial charity, I'll buy a pair at full retail, even though I'm sponsored by a different brand.

kenah won a medal at outdoor worlds. i think that is pretty logical.
I know, but think of all the others who have won many more medals and dont have a shoe named after them. Not to take anything away from Rich, but there are more deserving guys than him.

well there aren't a whole lot of contemporary American middle distance or distance runners taking home outdoor world's medals, and certainly not many more medals.
I think Saucony has handled this with complete class. Saucony had a great day with the 5th and 7th place finishers only for that to be overshadowed with something much more important. Ryan was a class act and best wishes to his family and friends.
wow saucony even linked the memorial thread on here to their front page...
Rich Kenah also took the Bronze at the 1997 Indoor World Champs in Paris. So that is World's for Indoor and Outdoor. That is pretty big for a contemporary American Middle Distance runner.
I'd say there is some logic to the naming of shoe lines. I would also expect there to be some sort of tribute for Ryan Shay from Saucony - so long as it is done tastefully I don't think it will come off as the company trying to profit on this tragedy, it could be a very appropriate tribute to an extraordinary athlete.
