Anyone else here suck at training, especially workouts and then kill in races? I suck at workouts. guys that a routinely beat do workouts I could hardly imagine.

I'm better in races too. When I do workouts that call for "5k race pace" or "mile race pace", I'm amazed at how difficult they feel. Yet come race day I can hold those speeds for the full race. I don't get it.
yeah me too wrote:

anyone else. for example I ran a 10k the other day in 32.21. but, I had a hard time running 3xmile w/90s in 5.10.
Funny stuff that adrenaline.
yeah I'm the same way. There are many workouts where I just can't keep up with guys on my team who I know I'm better than, but come race day I'm beating them by a minute for 8k.
You guys are killing them on Saturday because they're killing themselves during the week. If you race every workout, you'll never be ready to compete.
Plus workouts on a weekday night with few members of your team can never compare or compete with the real live atmosphere, challenge, motivation to win, environment and adrenelin of the weekend race with more competition and race fever!
Train hard but smart - always go out to win the race!
I'm surprised the letsrun crowd is flipping out more over this. . . usually in threads where workouts are mentioned, you get stuff like "if you can't do 10x400 in 60 with 30 seconds rest, you're not ready for a 4:10 mile" or "if 3xmile in 4:30 with 100 jog isn't easy for you, then forget about a 9:15 two mile.
i usually am excited to do workouts, they are my favorite part of training, which is why i can sometimes do workouts equal to or better than i can race...Im not doing them too hard because I make sure they feel easy, but sometimes a pace that feels easy in a workout is not so easy during the race
