After all the hoopla, arguments and discussion I have to give the NYRR and its staff an almost perfect score in hosting the Trials. What a stage for a remarkable race--so many things to rave about, but from an athletes point of view, things were perfect. Great organization, great trials staff--they treated us all like rock stars. The bottle thing worked out very well (yes, even for Bs!). Communication was excellent. Hospitality suite and its staff were crazy nice. Race morning went smoothly from an ontime bus load to the gun going off right at 7:37AM. Tech meeting had a nice lunch and provided all the info necessary. Nice goody bag. Post race went pretty well--took awhile to get the busses moving, but that was just because there were 100s of family and friends at the athlete recovery. Post race luncheon was scheduled too soon--was too quick of a turnaround, (not sure anybody expected things to take quite so long with the family meet and greet) but they did a great job with it--highlight video, kind words about Ryan Shay, and still kept it a celebration of the race (goose bumps when folks started clapping for Ryan, Ritz and Brian!). NBC should also get a pat on the back for good coverage--sure I think we would have all liked to have seen the entire race, but all things considered, I they did a nice job.
So a big thank you to Sam, Laura, Brett, Rob, Winston, Scott, USATF staff, and all others that worked so hard to pull off the wonderful experience.
