I'll bet dollars to donuts that Webb is kicking himself even as I write this for not being a part of the great marathon trials lineup.

Its true! I was going to sit patiently behind the leaders and then blast a 24.7 200 right before we reached the 4 mile mark. Then I would sit down on the curb and drink a beverage and wonder what went wrong.
Ahhh, that s*** is still funny :)
maybe some day eh?
He still might do it. Still might have time to get over there and toe the line. No one would stop the American record holder from jumping into the race at the last minute. Webb, are you out there? Are you listening? GO FOR IT!
Well, he missed his chance for this Olympics. Hope he'll try the marathon before he gets too old.
webb is a pussy, he'll never even FINISH a marathon, he'll be too busy never touching el g's mile time
I usually am able to ignore jerks like you on this message board, but in this case, I can't. Why are you being a dick? To get attention? Congratulations, moron, you got someone's attention. But it's not good attention. You're an idiot. Alan Webb is an extraordinarily talented runner. Right now, the mile looks to be his strongest event. Granted he has shown tremendous potential for the 5k and 10k, but guess what? The marathon is 20 miles longer than the 10k! Alan Webb's range is amazing and astounding, and there's no reason to think that he won't be a terrific marathoner if he sets his mind to it. That being said he set the AR in the mile this summer, and there's equally no reason to think that he won't be the best miler in the world if he sets his mind to it. Add to that the fact that he will still probably make the Olympic team in his strongest event, why are you bothering to bash him? There is no reason. Webb may NEVER win a gold medal and NEVER set a WR. But it doesn't matter if that never happens. He's already set a record that will most likely stand as long as he is actively competing, and that's a pretty damned good accomplishment. Even if he has already run his career best and never reaches this point again, he will remain the fastest American miler of all time until someone comes along and tops his performance. That is a lifetime achievement. I don't care what you think about Alan Webb, and I'm sure that he cares even less (if that's possible), but I hope that your post serves as an example to people who think they know what's good for the best athletes that America has ever produced. You are NOT in his shoes, you (probably, perhaps hell froze over and you are Steve Spence) were never in his shoes, and you will never, ever, be in the same league as him as an individual. If you are a 1500/miler running close to his times, I pity your pathetic excuse of an existence to justify your already good career. Otherwise, get off your high horse, stop being an asshole troll and get on arguing with I Love Peeps.
come on this is funny
How many guys have gone sub 4/ sub 2:10?
sure is...if you're a jerk...
Webb may run a fun marathon at the end of his career like Holman did. At least now he will stick with the 1500.
