And now what you should have said: This cold weathr will not be good for THE FAVORITES.
i agree. the africans are going to f***ing fall apart. i personally think abdi will have a tough time making the team. culpepper will sit back at take off at mile 23 with hall in tow. hall wins in final 500 meters. gonna be a great finish.
1.hall
2.c-pepper
3.abdi/ritz
oh and i have a dark horse prediction. westly keating, formerly of u tex pan america, will run great. though he hates the cold. he ran some amazing races in college. and has had a few disapointments. but he is still good. he will run well.
And I don't know a single 'non-football fan' who will be watching football this weekend. Obviously, if they are a non-runner, they are not interested. Just as the people I work with who don't follow football don't give a rats ass about the weekend games.
"Club runners" = fitness enthusiast- they want to be in shape and running provides that. It doesn't mean they are interested in the sport.
This weather is not a good situation for the pampered little spoiled athletes. They are not accustomed to adversity. NO NAMES MENTIONED.
Rupp? oh wait, hes not running the marathon.
As of 6:30, there's no rain and it's quite still, too. Perhaps this is the calm before the storm, and I'd only hope the calm can last another three hours and a bit.
what a sad lot y'all are. nothing but negativity! don't you see, this is the type of weather event that can make a race epic. so it doesn't mimic beijing's weather, oh well, not the greatest planning in my opinion, but lets be excited that this race will not be won by anyone who lacks determination and grit.
my vote goes to someone who was raised and still lives at altitude in a place that sees inclement weather such as this.

This is good prep for Beijing, at least we will have a team that can run well in cold inclement weather, just like the conditions they will face in Beijing.
It was cold in Birmingham and STL in 2004 and what was the outcome in Athens?
All of you whining about what the weather was going to be like and complaining about NYC are a bunch of wussies. We were down there early and it was 45-48 with some gusty wind in spots. It didn't seem to be a bad day for Ryan Hall and the new USA Olympic marathon team. The crowds were large and enthusiastic. These great runners got a well deserved moment in the spotlight. They should do in NYC every time from now on.
What a great team we are bringing to China. Ryan is a definite medal favorite. Dathan has a medal shot given his marathon improvement curve and great talent. Brian Sell is a contender with all of the tough conditions they are sure to face. I hope he gets some funding to do altitude training and be able to trade in his 20 hours of work at Home Depot for some massage treatments and other training support. This is one exciting team.
Go Meb and Abdi in the 10K. Good luck to KK for some major marathon paydays when he completes his comeback.

The race was sick, weather wasn't as bad as everyone expected but Hall ran one hell of a race. I hope the team stays healthy and does well in China. The only bad thing about the race was what happened to Ryan Shay. Its sad and a big hit to the running world.
