Quote from NYT article on Salazar:
-----------start quote --------
“I told you before that for an American runner to beat the world’s best, he has to be an anomaly,” he said. “I still think that’s true, but now I know that something else is true, too.
You can compete with the world’s best and not destroy yourself in the process.
There is a way to do it. I’m not sure I’ve found it yet, but I’m getting closer. You can find a balance. You don’t have to run over the edge.”
----------- end quote ----------
Seems like somebody is searching for a new outlook on Elite Running borrowing from the back of the pack.
Interesting is the contrast which led many mid and backpackers to destroy themselves trying to emulate the elites.
"Equilibrium" is the ultimate athlete: may not always win. But IT will always catch up. Always. On a good day, IT will even win. No problem.
