Given that most of their operating systems, Excel, Word, etc. are written in C/C++, I assume it will be a LONG TIME before C++ is "phased out".
C++ is a good common language to know. You can cross over between Windows, Linux, and Mac with it.
I think MS has done a good job with core C# and .NET in general, but as usual, they try hard to get the user addicted to their "point/click" add-ons that make it easy (for simple things) to develop.
