You couldn't be anymore off base . . . but that makes sense since you're a tsip.
Baylor is a great school. A Christian committment, true (and no apologies) but also a serious academic institution.
It's not small -- 14,000 students.
It's not a college -- it's a university
It's not lost "in the middle of Texas" but is conveniently located right on 1-35 between Austin and Dallas. For that matter, Waco is a decent city. Gets too much negative assessment. True, it's not Austin or Dallas, or Fort Worth. But for crying out loud it's not as dead as Bryan/College Station, etc.
The vast majority of students at Baylor are here because of the school's outstanding academic programs -- and, make no mistake, they are outstanding.
Very few are "bible-thumping freaks" here Those types tend to go to smaller Bible colleges. There are a lot of Christians, and that's good. What's wrong with people who have religious beliefs?
The # problem with the Baylor men's team is just that all of the school's trac/CC scholarships go to 400 meter runners. That's BU's chosen area of excellence, and there just aren't enough scholarships in NCAA track/CC to divide up enough ways to field a full slate of sprinters, distance runners etc. without a considerable number of walk-ons. Since Baylor costs a good bit, the # of walk-ons is lower.
That said, the men's team is at a low point. Back in the mid-1990s they had a solid team with guys like Brian Keim on it that made the national championships. Would be good to see those days return.
