A little cocky, yeah, but thats just his personality. I think he is going to step up his training. And its going to be sweet to watch how good he does.

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, fernando
Regardless of what others think about personality, Cabada has obvious talent. Stick with your training Fernando and keep running hard. You will resurface and be a great runner...one of the best.
I have never seen an athlete with less grasp of the concepts of training than this mental light weight. Prior to the WC he was quoted as saying that he was ready to run for a medal. He then returned and talked about how crappy his training was in Indiana. THEN WHY DID YOU PREDICT A MEDAL? If what you claim is true about not running if you are not ready (for the trials) then why did you accept a position to OSAKA? If you believed that your training was going well and it was as poor as your performance was in Osaka, then you don't understand training. If it was just a bad race, then why leave Indiana?
Fernando,
You are clueless.
There are many variables in the marathon, which on any given day, throw all the best plans to waste.
Who could have predicted that Seko, Salazar and Deek would run below their usual performance levels in LA 1984?
Ghost in Korea
The difference is that none of them dumped their coaches after LA and blamed their failures on their coach after claiming to be in great shape going into the event.
I think climbing the ranks of international running is quite difficult to do. But every experience is a step along the way to something better. Sure Cabada blew up in Osaka. But he got the chance to run in a world championship environment. Next time he gets on that stage, he'll know better what to do. So he gained something. He went from a national-level runner with minimal international experience to a WC veteran. The training time he sacrificed to taper and recover for Osaka was worth it.
He's determined that similar gains can't be made from racing the Oly Trials. What if he does runs the best race imaginable based on his training and finishes 7th? So what? He proved he's one of the top 10 marathoners in the country. HE KNEW THAT ALREADY. SO DID WE.
That is not true of somebody with a marathon PR of 2:19 and a 10k PR of 29:30. For that guy, it makes sense to run in the trials. It's his best shot at stepping up a level. He won't make the team, but he might run 2:15 on a hard course and finish top 25. That would be huge: toeing the line as an unknown, and crossing the tape as a nationally-ranked athlete.
Cabada, on the other hand, can't step up a level by finishing top 20, or even top 10. For Cabada to step up a level, he needs to train a few more months, then hop in a big international marathon and beat some sub-2:11 guys. That's his next step.

I thought that he said this was his sixth or seventh world team and he has never performed well and that has bothered him.
I understand that he may not be a quick study, but come on.
Next time he will know better??????? Shouldn't this have taken place 5 times ago?
Ok this video I thought was interesting. I saw a link to the first one he did on here and after about 10 seconds concluded it was proof Flagstaff had jumped the shark and proof that most of the video on the net is not worth watching.
But this one was good. He actually wasn't afraid to express an opinion, and conveyed a little about his thought process in training.
My question is what was his reference to Indiana. Did he join Chapman's group for a little while?
Cabada ran 2:12 in his debut to almost no fanfare. Glad to see he has a lot of confidence on his future.
maybe they shouldnt run the trials just let the top 5 race..lol
this guy is worse head case than goucher
I don't know what to make of the video's he puts up. While I think its great ot be yourself and express your opinions, its an entirely different thing to broadcast them to everyone, because...
A. I can backfire on you
B. It can portray the wrong message you want to send.
I'm not going to get down on the guy, to me it just sounds like he's trying to boost his own confidence, and for somepeople, it helps to be vocal about it and talk some game... again, the problem is, for his own sake and his credibilities sake, is that you have to write the checks that the mouth has written...
To be honest, I like a guy who talks game but then backs it up, I like guys like Motram, Pre, and Gabe... did they win everything know, but they weren't afraid to say "screw it, i'm going after it and thats that" granted, they didn't put it on youtube.
So, King Cobra, I hope your on the right track and that you get back to your grass roots style that brought you success, just remember that making videos don't run your races....
Best of luck.

MR: Tell me about the documentary, Born to Run
FB:It’s actually going to feature several of the Trials athletes, including Abdi Abdirahman. And Fernando Cabada, who qualified but is no longer running the Trials [because of an injury], is going to be a large part of the story.
what about the guys outside the top 30. Are they hoping the entire top 30 is going to get food poisoning so they have a shot? And the guys outside the top 100. did he ever think some guys are running and they realize they have no shot. But they made the US trials, so they're going to run the US trials. They want competition so they can run better times.
A marathon hurts you. If you aren't in top shape, then save your energy for another race, but I think cabada said he isn't able to run with the top guys in the race so he's not going to compete. How are you ever going to get better? Maybe it's more important for him, as a professional runner, to win another race and avoid the trails. That's justifiable too.
He definitely comes across as an idiot in this video to me. Not only what he says, but also the way he speaks.
Translation: "Training is not going as well as planned and I don't want to show up and not run well"
That's all he had to say. At his level if you're not in shape, if the preparation isn't going the best it ever has , and you see that you have no chance of making top 3, you believe that you're not going to make top 3...then why go? He's been reading his own hype though...thus the YouTube performance. 10/10! He reminds of a number of professional athletes in the NBA, NFL, etc. Definetly doesn't come across in that performance as your typical humble down to earth runner. Sort of comes off like AI...."We talking 'bout practice!"
Alan
What if he thinks that he can finish in the top 3 but he realizes that he can't perform in the heat of Beijing? He proved that in Osaka.
This guy is a druggie, just like his native boy Billy Mills
That was awful, worse than Mykytok's book
That was awful, worse than Mykytok's book
Give the boy an Oscar! That was a fine performance of someone who had one too many doobies for breakfast, keep to the porridge and go run instead of makin stupid videos. Wanker.
hey i give him credit for putting himself out there. About 99% of this board is too afraid to even put a name behind their comments, let alone have a video of their personal thoughts.
I'm sure any of the criticism will just give him more reason to train harder. WHY DOES practically everyone here have to talk constant s%#& . whatd he do to you?
