Spira - defy the ban 10K Defy the Ban
remember these spring shoe guys that tried to promote at Boston?
World' Fastest 10K
Defy the Ban 10K is a USATF certified downhill 10K course starting at the top of Transmountain Road at an elevation of 5,200 feet' and finishing on Northwestern at 3,800'. Or Participate in a 2 Mile Fun Run and Walk.
The course has been properly measured and the distance is certified to be accurate, but losing more than a meter in elevation per kilometer cancels out any chance for recognition.
Let's just say it is an aided course
It drops, on average, 140 feet per kilometer. Screaming fast course, it's the first half of the Transmountain 20K run in reverse. UTEP xc runners have done training runs starting at Doniphan and going up to the crest. I'll say it's an aided course, how much does the St. George course lose per km on average?
It's too bad that the Spira Company needs to hold their own race on an illegal course to help promote a gimmick shoe. They would have been much better off holding a ligitimate race with athletes running respectable times. What ever creditbility they had went down the drain with this stunt. The course may be Certified for the distance, but not acceptable for records. Didn't Steve Scott run a mile on a downhill course?
Speaking of bans, here's someone who fits right in with this race:

Did you know that he was a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team in the marathon? I didn't. Somehow, the article fails to mention what Eddy is best known for.
Is this what our sport has become? Aided course, aided shoes, and a drug-aided runner. The only thing missing is the human windbreak in front of the preselected winner.

IN THE 1980s, a popular event in New Zealand was the Molenberg Mile, for which competitors raced a carefully measured course down Queen Street in the heart of Auckland. The course fell by nearly 208 yards from start to finish. In 1983, Mike Boit of Kenya completed the course in a world best time of 3 minutes 28.36 seconds.
Whoever the race director is, he must be wholly ignorant of or indifferent to the sport and its history to promote his race on the back of that slimy rat.
defy the ban
perfect for Mr. Eddy the Cheater
The writer of this particle article is very gulible in regards to not know someone's checkered past?
eddy h did in fact compete in the 96 olympics. the marathon in ATL.
Not on the US team though, as the author, who apparently couldn't check a fact if his life depended on it, claimed.
I grew up in EP and actually was in school with Alan Culpepper (Coronado). Transmountain Road is brutal (on the way up). We used to run it to build cross country strength for the season. The joke was always, why couldn't we run from the summit to the bottom. I guess "the joke" has become a road race.
Take specific note of bullet point 5

Maybe its a typo... 8k maybe?
Is it true that prize money is only paid to those who wear Spira? What a JOKE! So, a shoe maker will only pay prize money to those that wear their shoes. Gee - what a surprize that the winner wore Spira. Maybe try to have a legitimate race next time? I think not.
summary video, superfast course, 1400 ft drop!
