that would be great, the more the merrier! i'd say low to mid 1:14 with the first 2 miles being 6:00/5:20ish for me.
2:28.. I will give you 2:38 on a good day in NYC. Its not Chicago.
I'll take a piece of that thanks Ian, will be there at sub elite start also
I will be in the sub elite start as well, hoping to go under 2:30. I would def. like to be part of a nice pack.
great! i'm number 240 and i'll be wearing a royal blue baa singlet and a white hat (most likely backwards). looking forward to the company.

The weather is looking favorable......at this point.
Don't know if anyone caught this on the NYRRC website but they are instituting a wave start for the green start runners. (They do this at the Great Cow Harbor 10k also, every 1 minute).
Important Update
Due to major construction on the lower level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, all marathoners in the green start corral MUST run in the designated lanes. You will put yourself at risk if you run anywhere other than the designated lanes. NYRR asks that you please consider your safety and the safety of your fellow runners, and we appreciate your cooperation.
In addition, there will be a wave start for the green start corral. Corral masters will organize runners into hard corrals in the green staging area, then will lead runners to the green start area and give start commands.
The first corral will begin when the start cannon is sounded; the second corral will move up toward the front of the green start area and the corral master will give a verbal and visual signal to begin; the third corral will move up and await the signals to start, and so on.
This wave start in the green corral will help ensure that all marathoners cross the start line safely and with as little crowding on the course as possible. Please keep in mind that your ChampionChip will record your net time (from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line). Your net time will be your official time and will determine your order of finish.
Are the age group prizes going to be decided by gun time or chip time? I'd hate to battle a gal to the line and beat her by 5 meters only to have her get the win because her chip was faster by a second.
In 2006 it was gun time even though the "official" time was chip.
I don't know what the sub-elite corral is. I'm in the blue. Sounds good to me. Hoping to go through halfway in 1:14-15. Have never run New York and don't know much about the course. I'ved viewed it on google earth, but that's still hard to judge the inclines. I've run my second fastest marathon ever on a hilly course so the hills don't scare me too much. Worst hill is at the start over the bridge anyway correct? Won't be too concerned how slow the first mile is. I'm pretty good at getting right on pace, at least the effort, at the start. No 5:20s or 6:20s first mile from me. We can try to meet up prior. Hell we'll have hours on end to kill anyway. You can't miss me, I'll be wearing bright neon glow in the dark brooks jersey...:)
Alan
According to the update:
"Your net time will be your official time and will determine your order of finish."
Chip time it is....
Re age-group: for 2006 I have one "official" time for overall but a different (gun) time for an age-group award.
Hey Boys, I am shooting for a 1:14-1:15 first half as well. Went through in 1:13:52 last year and it felt OK, maybe a touch quick as I paid for it at 19 miles. I am in equal shape, hopefully better this year--just did a 1:11:08 half on big training a few weeks ago. But who knows on the day. Still trying to shake a head cold, but I am hopeful with the taper to be ready to go next week.
Last year I hooked up with a group of 4 guys in the sub-elite after about 2.5 miles and we stuck together to the Queensboro bridge (mile 15). Once the 4 of us hit Mile 8 the guys from the 0-1000 corral also joined up. We had a group of about 12 or 13 guys going for at least 6 miles. The best part of the race for me. I got antsy on the bridge and dropped most of the pack, and ran too hard for the next few miles (bad idea). Chill it up 1st Ave is my goal this year.
BTW, I will be in the sub-elite (along with a training partner of mine from Toronto, and another VERY talented Canadian who will be shooting for around this time--he is just having fun). I will be wearing an Orange singlet and Orange Flats. Ugly stuff. Hopefully we can all hook up early and work together.
One last thing--My feeling is the first half of the race is not as tough as the second, but it is really the accumulation of the hills that gets you, not any single part of the race. In fact, I never felt horrible anywhere on the course.... No way for negative splits though. I will be shooting for sub-2:30 but will need give myself at least one minute in reserve.
