This is my last season of college (D3) eligibility, so I'd like to finish out on a positive note. The problem is that I haven't been as diligent about my nutrition as about my training, and the extra few pounds are reflected in my times (and how I feel in races). It's usually not good when your stomach is the first body part to cross the finish.
Anyway, right now I weigh about 8 lbs. more than when I ran most of my PRs a couple years ago (148 vs. 140). I'd like to shed most of that baggage before my last conference meet in 3 weeks (I don't care about regionals as much since neither myself nor the team have any chance of qualifying). This is only a short-term reduction as I plan to pig out as soon as the season is over.
So how to do it safely? Increasing mileage is not really an option since we are supposed to peak. I will cut out all alcohol, fast food, junk food, butter and other fats, and eat smaller meals (3 a day) - and drink lots of water whenever I feel hungry in between.
Anybody else try short-term weight loss during the season, and how did it affect your performance?
