He's got less than a month to recover after what is probably his hardest marathon ever. I don't like his chances to beat his time from today even with NYC being a lot easier. It's awesome he got in though!

No kidding. See the picture. Mikey also had a hot weather marathon at Grandma's in June and blew up to miss the qualifier there, so I'm afraid he's toast for the Trials. But this was a great race, he deserves a lot of credit for it.
He is pointing at the same reporters that Sebastian Coe was pointing at after he won his last Olympic Race. Of course this guy is only using one arm because he is not as angry.
So what is so wonderful about this pic?
Surely you speak in jest?
OK, I might have been exaggerating to make a point, but it doesn't seem right that someone was putting down such a valient effort on one hell of a tough day.
You dink, how the hell was I "putting down" his effort? Definitely kudos to him for making his dreams come true, but is it really a stretch to say that someone who didn't get the qualifier until today probably had too much taken out of him by the effort in that heat that he will have a really tough time recovering that well within the next four weeks to beat what is the best time he's run in the past couple of years, if not a PR? It's not about him, personally, it's about what human physiology is capable of.
If he rests and jogs from now till NYC I'd say he goes 2:20....then again it is the Trials and a lot of guys go out with the leaders only to split the back half in something aweful.
So, let's say his effort today is worth a 2:15 in cooler weather. Given that, I'd say he could go 2:20 in a month.
Alan
that's a large assumption. maybe it's worth 2:19 in cooler weather. some people just adapt to heat better. if he's really capable of 2:15 then why didn't he run that at some point in the qualification window? it's a slower course in nyc, too. if you want to believe that he'll catch lightning in a bottle again so soon then i don't think anything can convince you of what's truly probable.
Sorry, I don't understand what's going on in the pic. It looks as though he wouldn't prefer to be in that chair.

I don't know exactly what he's capable of running, but he had injury problems the past few years and had to go for a late qualifier at Grandma's and then try to peak at the Trials. Grandma's was hot & humid, and he wound up missing the qualifier and being forced to run at Chicago, closer to his peak. My guess is he is capable of something close to 2:15 on a course like Chicago even though he hasn't run that fast yet. (Actually he barely made the Trials last time, too). But, if he runs anything close to that at the Trials next month I might start a "Mike Cox is a doper" thread --- even though I know he isn't....

She's either:
1) On iTunes tech support trying to figure out how to get her ipod to stop playing the theme from Chariots of Fire.
2) On the phone with Nike+ tech support trying to figure out how to get her "Power Song" to startnow that she's reached the half marathon mark.
3) On the phone with Brad Hudson's on-line coaching tech support trying to figure out how to get her Garmin GPS watch to display her split times.
maybe she's calling someone to tell them that she's got a nice rack.
That broad is jacked!
