How did Flogel do? He just ran like a 224 or something at Grandma's this summer, and I thought he was entered

I feel for the Pitrea but there's nothing I like seeing better than someone waving to the fans while she is about to get stomped! Wow. Pitrea definitely showing her lack of experience in that one.
Does that smelly guys still think that Pitrea is on drugs?
Wow fantastic! adere teaches the kid a thing or two about being a little bit more alert
Adere showed pure guts!!!!
I loved the commentators ... at how they had sowed it up and .. then comes adere and just blasts the shit out off them.
wow wow
I wouldn't go as far as saying it was a "dirty" move. Sometimes when you want something so badly, your instincts just take over. Imagine what you would do just to get a stupid foul ball at a baseball game.
comments during the breaks today have been as good as the coverage comments
not fast times, but good finishes for sure

The announcer said kate o neil is going to the olympic trials in boston. Must be her own private olympic trials.
What? Are you implying that her time won't qualify her?

I imagine that the rest of the US women marathoners, including Deena Kastor, will be there in Boston in April also, so no, it won't be "her own private olympic trials".
They are in Boston...

I wonder why the broadcasters sounded so disappointed when Adere won?
quite telling....
Secondly can they PLEASE stop having those dumbazzes from holding that stupid tape across the line...its unnecessary these days..or stand on the very edges with a thin rope.
You retard, the women's olympic marathon trials are in boston next year.

Yeah, debut marathon, going head-to-head with a world champion...I'm sure she feels like an idiot.
Granted the finish was ROUGH, but I'd say that's more a credit to Adere than a knock on the rookie.
It was pretty funny listening to the commentators: "how much is the lead?" "oh, insurmountable?"
Finishing second is GREAT for your debut, don't get me wrong. BUT, she had that race in the bag and losing in the manner that she did is absolutely crazy. You don't think she's kicking herself in the ass right now? After making the move she did at around 20 miles shows that she wasn't going to just be happy finishing 2nd.

Some of those poor bastards and bastardettes are really
suffering. Collapse, wheelchairs, etc. Med staff will be busy.

The whole line IS valid for the finish! You don't need to "break the tape" to win as evidenced by the women's winner!! Did you see the moron holding the tape? He had no idea what was going on!
Haha, yeah the whole plane counts, but clearly people feel compelled to hit the tape. Except Adere, who I agree was great in just getting across and leaving the tools holding the tape with nothing to do.
If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it at Chicago where the slippery finish line sticker knocked down a winner?
The tape thing could be improved as well. Just get those old guys out of the way! There is a reason the finish line mats are so wide.
(or is it because the sponser needs their phono-op across the winner's chest for the national papers, hmmm)
In the women's race, I'm sorry, that was so stupid. I have never been in a race where I didn't run as hard as I could through the tape. I have never won a major marathon, but I have won plenty of hs/college/local races. And you DON'T LET UP BEFORE THE TAPE. Unless you're purposely running a sub-maximal effort for training purposes.
Of course, I have a really shitty kick, so I'm always expecting somebody to fly past me after I think I have it wrapped up. I assume I'm just being toyed with. So I just run my ass off until I am 5 yards past the line. I'm actually quite surprised when I win.
But then again, maybe that last sentence suggests that I lack the "innate confidence" (as the announcer put it) that it takes to pass the defending champion at mile 18. Maybe it's hard to reconcile being confident with being careful. Thoughts?
Pirtea must have been just jogging the last mile. She wasn't even running a good effort at the end, let alone, as fast as possible.

The tape is "necessary" for the sponsors. Wihtout that finish tape (more like banner) Ivuti would be taking home a good 50K less today.
Would have been cool if he had run around the tape, though. Gharib gets the money shot, Ivuti gets the money. Oh well.
It was just like Erik Zabel at Milan-San Remo!
