This morning alone, CNN has devoted over an hour of race footage and interviews on Marion Jones, using her case to label all runners.
Personally, I think it is great whenever we catch(tests or guilt-induced confessions) drug cheats and are able to remove them from representing our sport. However, CNN and other US news agencies only provide disservice to our sport by never(okay, maybe sprinters receive 1min of coverage per year...if a record is broken) covering it unless there is a new drug cheat found.
End result: if negative news is the ONLY news the general US audience hears about professional runners, for many, it is the ONLY knowledge which shapes their thoughts on us. Face it, even many runners have been duped by this group thought and now we all walk around being skeptical of each other.
CNN had Carl Lewis on this morning but they should have called Wejo...they should devote an HOUR of coverage to the Hanson or Mammoth Lakes teams, but until they provide a more complete picture of professional running I refuse to take in their trashing of our sport.
It is simple: catch the cheats, promote the clean.
