Was a good performance but I still think the Germans will be much too strong.
Now that women's football is being taken seriously in traditional footballing nations, we're getting a WWC final that looks like a men's final - Brasil v Germany.
The days of Americans claiming superiority in a sport the rest of the world didn't really play are now over.

yeah, the US is awful at sports. just look at their pathetic medal count in every olympics. sad really.
every other country rules!
Not that the media covers women's soccer much, but I don't recall anyone in the US cliaming we were superior to anyone in women's soccer. But I recognize the rest of the world smiles when we get beat in anything. It also probably didn't hurt that Brazil had to play no one in their group matches.

don't worry, we still have baseball and american football
When the US torques on the world in basketball at the next Olympics, the rest of the world won't be smiling, the US can sit back and reclaim another sport.
"The best team you've never heard of."
Oops.
I'm a typical american soccer fan. I only pay attention for the olympics or world cup finals. That said, I was surprised to read this morning that the american coach was going to switch goalies for the final game. I guess the one goalie gave up 2 goals all tournament but he decided to bench her for some reason. Looks like a genius move now!
I'm trying to think of a parallel in more popular sports. Would this be like benching Ray Lewis in the superbowl because you think his backup would be better at pass coverage?
OK, that ends my interest in soccer for the next 2 years or so.

This is obvious: Mr. Burns replacing Daryl Strawberry (9 for 9 - all home runs) for Homer because he (Homer) is a righty as was the pitcher ("It's called playing the averages."). Then again, Springfield won the game anyway.
The US is the best sporting nation, and is even better now that we are decent at soccer. Soccer is just an added bonus.

Right. This breaks about a 40 match undefeated streak in international play and they're washed up?
The coach blew it, no doubt,by starting Scurry. It would be kind of like starting Magic Johnson for the USA Olympic Basketball team next year. Good job Greg Ryan, you numbskull.
Just to let you know: this is a RUNNING site.
Soccer.
Fah!
did scurry even want to start in this game? i thought i heard one of the commentators say she didn't. it's amazing though because when she came out, you could see the intensity in her, and you could also feel her frustration on every single one of those goals, but i wonder how somo(sp?) felt about it. sucky situation.
honestly though, i didn't see one american player outsprint a brazilian player. the defense was good, no little mistakes that lead to goals score by the opponent. brazil was a lot more crisp and sharp with their passing, they displayed greater ball-handling skills, they contested every pass, and they outsprinted the americans time and time again. even evertson wasn't enough to contain marta, but i guess the point is there is no one because she is so amazing. brazil deserved that game, even if the usa had 10 players and scored brazil's first point.
a lot of those girls will be back next year, and hopefully by then they will have done some organized sprint workouts beyond just playing soccer.

if they come back next year, they'll undoubtedly win, since they don't play the world cup every year

lol...
Rubbish. Brazil outclassed the USA in all areas. Plain and simple. To blame it on the goalie is to ignore the obvious truth, one which was stated earlier on this thread - a sleeping giant has been awoken in Brazil.

The best men in the world play good football.
Brazil hacked Argentina in the finals of Copa America.
They were ugly in their game, they brought out their axes and mangled the Argentineans.
They mugged them yet htey (Brazilians) are the best. What a shame!
