anyone else look lean normally, but then AFTER a run, look more soft and doughy?
I've always been like this. It's like running relaxes my whole body, including my muscle tone.
Now the exception is my legs, they look ripped as usual. But my upper body goes all pudgy..it's bizarre.
I'm talking I normally have a fairly visible six pack, then I come home after an hour steady run, rip off the shirt, and...no muscle definition. Couple hours later, back to normal.

for me i get pretty tight and ripped after a run, especially a long run. damn i love myself.
I had often wondered the same thing....anyways a while back I was told that this happens because of dehydration. Once you start working out, your body tries to send more liquids to your muscles to keep from cramping up. So, with the increased amount of liquid in your muscles you look bloated. Might not be true but sounds possible, that's just what I was told

It's because during the run your glycogen and water supplies in your muscles greatly decrease, and by the end your muscles have a lot less fuel in them. They will be weaker and less toned. Eat a snack or a meal after the run to return to normal. This happens to everyone.

doesn't happen to me. i always look quite toned, but after a run i look like a frekin greek god, with every muscle very defined. although i do see how your point could be possible.
overall i'd say the only way to avoid the doughy look is to be leaner in general.
oh ya, body type is probably the only thing that matters here. i could gain 20 lbs and probably still have definition in my abs...gaining the 20lbs would be hard too.

Yeah you probably just have lower body fat % than us. But it still happens to you, it's just less noticeable.
