That was it, Adidas SL72 then I think they went to SL76 still just as crappy.

I would pay a LOT of money for ACCURATE re-makes of the Nike Oregon Waffle, Tiger Ohbori, or Nike Eagle. And maybe add Tiger Jayhawk to the list.
New Balance 320's, 620's and 730's; Nike LDV (not the LD1000!), Nike Skylon & Elite; Converse Equinox (best shoe ever); Tiger Epirus; adidas Boston and Oregon. (Some may have been in the early 80's)
The shoes seemed a lot lighter.
Nike Waffle Racers (green with black swoosh) were terrific. Nike Eagle (black and gray with a white-ish yellow midsole) and later the American Eagle were terrific flats--light and comfortable.
I think the original Tiger X-Caliber GT came in the early 80s?
My first pair of running shoes were Jox by Thom McAn. Compared with today's shoes, they were terrible, and they gave me the worst, bloody blisters. But I wore them for my entire first track season as a sophomore in high school, for everything from distance on the road to races. I had no racing flats or spikes, just those Jox for everything. Other than the blisters, I had no injuries at all that season. It wasn't until I got decent shoes the next year (Nike Waffle Trainers and Nike LDV) that I started getting injuries. Here's a photo of my first shoes, although mine were blue and yellow.

I had a pair of those green Nike Waffle Racers with the black swoosh, too! They had no real cushion in the forefoot, were terrible on pavement, but were great on grassy or dirt cross country courses. I wore them for my senior year of cross country before I was injured and missed the State meet, and I wore them the next year when I was on scholarship at the University of Utah, where I was injured again. I don't blame the shoes--they were some of my all-time favorites. Here's a photo, but with a green swoosh instead of the black we had:

First pair was in 77' or 78', they were the original Nike Waffle Trainer. Blue wit the yellow swoosh. I was in 7th or 8th grade when I got them.
Changing the subject, my favorite racing shoe as he Adidas Marathon 80's. Talk about a minimalist shoe, I think they weighed a little over 5 ounces in a size 10. These were the shoes Cierpinski wore to steal the gold from Frank Shorter in the Olympic marathon.
Aww, the good old days.
I'd love for Nike to do a reissue of: Terra TC, Spiridon Gold and the American Eagle.
Circa 1985, what was the name of the Nike racing shoes with the air midsole and had the blue swoosh on the outside and red on the inside? They were a bit heavy but great shoes. Anybody?
I'll think of it, I had a pair of the flats they also had the same look in spikes. White with red on one side and blue on the other. I had a pair of those also until just recently when my wife made me throw them away during our move!! Loved those spikes
Nike's Waffle Racer which was essentially the Nike Pre Montreal Racer is still going strong 40+ years later.
I know Pat Porter wore both the spikes and flats also. In fact he wore the flats in a 10K road race which he won shortly before the 84' Olympics. This race finished in the Coliseum.
My Tiger (Onitsuka) Jayhawks, signed by Bill Rodgers! They were racing flats, but I was only then when I got them, so running three six miles a day in them was no trouble.
Tiger Enduros, Tiger Bostons, Tiger Onitsukas, Tiger Cortez, Adidas Roms.
The Nike Internationalist (Blue/yellow swoosh) and original Pegasus (Grey/black) were not that different to todays. Top sellers. Those pegasus were my all-time faves.
I wish they still made these ,Tiger Epirus

I loved the Terra TCs, but think they were 80's.
My favorites may have been the Onisuka Tiger with the nylon uppers around 19870...maybe have been Bangkoks (??). Before the nylon, you had to suffer through breaking leather uppers in, and when those got wet, it wasn't much fun. These Tigers were so light & easy on the feet. Of course, Nike ripped them off very quickly.

I ran in these through college.
When my Tigers were stolen (1972), I ended up buying a pair of early Nikes (Cortez? no idea, now).
They contributed directly to my blowing a foot out several weeks later. I have never been able to run since.
So yeah, I recall them. Not with fondness.
