Are there any plans for the Cardinals to deal with the teams substance abuse issues? Alcohol and HGH would be a good start.
It's getting a little hard to keep up the aw shucks hardworkin Midwesterner act with all that going on, isn't it?

For the Brewers and their fans, the math is depressing. They have eight games remaining, compared to seven for the Cubs. If Chicago goes just 4-3 against its remaining soft competition (one against Pittsburgh, three against Florida, three against Cincinnati), the Brewers would have to go 7-1 against a tougher schedule (one against Atlanta, three against St. Louis, four against San Diego) merely to tie for first and force a one-game showdown.
i think the brewers are done. 2.5 games back now, they blew what should have been a good win yesterday. at this point it is the cubs to lose, which means they still have a bit of a shot, but not much of one.
the cubs "magic number" is now 6. the brewers is 11.
for every cubs wins OR brewers loss that number 6 goes down one and moves the cubs closer to the playoffs.
i think ned yost loses his job at then end of the season. he pissed away the nl central.
i am officially jumping on the cubs bandwagon.

jody davis! just saw the name. probably my fav player of all time. number 7, catcher on the '84 team.
ned yost losing his job are you serious? Why would he lose his job? The brewers havent been in a playoff race in forever. The cubs are much better than the brewers the brewers got hot early and you cant blame yost for his team not winning more than half their games. They are a good offensive team with no starting pitching staff whatsoever and one good reliever. Cubs are good offensive team with a solid/good pitching staff and above average bullpen. Brewers are below average in every aspect besides offense.
there are already calls for him to be fired on sports radio here in milwaukee.
this, his 5th season will be the 1st one he has a winning record. as of now he is 370 wins and 430 losses. not counting this season where he is 4 games over .500, he has never had a winning record.
the brewers have completely collapsed in the second half of the season.
there is already a fire ned yost website -
here is an article from earlier this month discussing firing him -
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=657387
it was not that long ago the brewers were in 1st place by about 10 games, now they are 3.5 back and seem to have given up.
yost has been a loser for 4 years and this will be his 5th. time to go.
earlier this month the owner of the brewers gave him a "vote of confidence." getting a "vote of confidence" is never a good thing.
the brewers failure in what is far and away the worst division in baseball says a lot.
the consensous here seems to be fire yost as well -

because it's his fault the bullpen gave up all those hits? because it's his fault they struck out all six outs in the 8th and 9th inning? hardly. Give yost some credit. He's leaning on guys who are either rookies, or have been on the club full-time for a year, i.e. braun, fielder, hardy, gallardo, hart. when your core nucleus is that young, and they're in their first playoff race, you can't ALWAYS lay the blame at the feet of the manager, which is what Milwaukeeans just want to do at this point. The rationale behind his decisions has been covered, http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2007/09/20/why-yost-decided-to-use-wise.aspx, and I agree with it. He'll be around next year, along with the vast majority of the team, and, having gone through the playoff race already, they'll win the division.

for what? for never having had a winning season? for going into a meeting with the press today and blaming the umpires for losing? for being 60 games below .500 for his coaching career in milwaukee? for taking a team that had a more than 10 game lead over the 2nd place team in july to one that is not even in the hunt for a wildcard spot in the playoffs? for assembling a team that has given up and cannot compete in the nl central, the far far and away weakest in baseball?
how many YEARS should he get before we can expect a team to finish over .500? put aside being in the playoffs, how about finishing above .500, just to win ONE more game than they lose? five years is too many.
this is his team. he played an active role in assembling it. he manages it. he has failed with it. five years is too long. he has had his chance and failed. it is time for yost to go, even if he makes the playoffs.
Cubs win again, Brewers lose again... magic # now is only 4, out of 13 games to be played... 6 for Cubs, 7 for Brewers.

Absent a colossal meltdown, which does not seem likely, the cubs will coast into the playoffs. I don't expect much beyond that from them, but the Brewers are toast.
With 13 games combined for the Brewers and Cubs, to win the Cubs need only a total of 4 wins AND/OR Brewers losses. That should not be a problem.
(But the shadow of 1969 "Miracle Mets" still lingers...)
playoff tickets for the 2 possible home Cubs playoff games were sold out in under 30 minutes.
I guess all the bandwagon fans got them....or go to craigslist.
Magic no. is one bitches. Woot, woot..
go cubbies

Brewers tied w/ Cubbies again as of tonight. This is the beginning of the inevitable slide by the Cubs. They will choke, as they always seem to do...
Thank you for this wonderful insight. You are a regular Soothsayer.
I would like to thank Ned Yost, we could never have done it without you.
Cubs win the central tonight.
The Brewers are eliminated as they lose and the Cubs win.
Phillies/Mets over Cubs round 1. Cubs win one game in the post season.

Trust me - they will find a way to blow it...
No way they make the playoffs.
Brewers just officially choked away the season. Enjoy snowmobiling season and fish fries, ya cheesehead ass-hat.
