Nick Maynard never ran 4:15 for the indoor mile at an indoor CU time-trial. Last year CU had like 3 athletes on their entire NCAA CC Champion team that could run that fast at altitude on a 200m unbanked track. That converts to around 4:06-4:07 mile. Give me a break!
didnt the mssu men and women win that conference.. thats a pretty awesome double... looks like there women are running better than ever before... and regionals are at there home.. and nats.. hope they put up a good show
"Obviously Flower is very biased because he doesn't like Jen, and that has a lot to do with the fact that he likes Aish and Aish and Jen don't get along all to well. Jen realizes, just like Vandenbuche did, that she is not the best one to write the workouts and has had some one write them for the team. She may lack some of the skills that VB had, like the inspirational, but as a previous poster said "that the will to win is in the athleates themselves," and that is no different this year. Flower has no idea what practice in Gunnison is like, and it seems that the only major glimpse that he gets is from his room mate(s) who are not the biggest fan of Jen themselves. The Big Red Machine will be oiled, greased, and ready to roll come around nationals and for years down the road."
i make this post with dry balls, so why don't you suck them? Though you might want to do it one at a time or else you might choke. (i know it's a south park rip off)
Montez! Pixler!!
I may have been wrong with the time (I can't quite remember), but when he told me the story I am very positive that it was under 4:20. If not you should go ask him yourself. But as I said before he beat many good CU runners but was not let on the team for political reasons that were out of his control. And I wish him the best for this track season.

Okay so your list would be more impressive if some of those runners hadn't graduated and move on when Art had gotten there. The most impressive unner on there Ben Lingrigh was already gone when Art started coaching there. Same with Jared Peacock man. and I am sure that if I cared to actually do reasearch and not just go off what I know then I am sure I can come up with more.
Art has been thre since 2000. Ben graduated in 2002 or 03, can't remember. Jared spent his whole time under art.

Two days until the big races
Go Seahawks!!!
A few things need to be cleared up here. First of all, Maynard says a lot of things, but here are the results:
http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=4080&SPID=265&DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=31406
Results speak for themselves. I go with what the accutrack says, not with what Maynard says. Not to take anything away from Maynard, he has made huge strides while at Mines and obviously is doing something right to win the 8 at RMAC.
Second of all, Neither Peacock nor Lengerich were coached by Siemers. Both overlapped him but at that point I think he only coached Weiss and a 1500 runner whose name escapes me. Van sickle coached both those guys through college. Siemers has done incredible things at Mines, McDavis being the most impressive of them, but he shouldn't be given credit for Peacock or Lengerich as they weren't his runners. Speaking of McDavis, what is that kid up to? I'd like to see him get under 4 this indoor season.

Pixler... yes, but montez??? chico's women are weaker this year than they've been in a while. Montez got 3rd (i believe) at the CCAA championship meet... what about Alburez? wasn't her first mile on the stanislaus course a 5:09??? I don't care if the course is completely flat, that is blazing.
Art was the head distance coach. Not a coach of a couple individuals on the side.
Larry graduated and is living/working in CA. He won't be running indoors this winter, as much as we would like to have him.

Siemers became the head distance coach in the Fall of 02. Prior to that he did "Coach a couple of individuals on the side" (namely Wiess and 1500m guy) while Oscar coached the rest of the distance team and Van Sickle coached the sprinters and mid-distance guys. Mines has always had both 800 meter runners who are distance guys and other ones who are 400-800 types and those are coached by VS. I think a current example would be Husted who doesnt run cross, and Maynard who does. Pretty sure VS still coaches Husted as he did Lengerich and Peacock. If you doubt me, go ask Siemers, he's an honest man and won't take credit for coaching Van Sickle's athletes.
One more thing I wanted to say about the whole Western Scenerio. Someone wanted to bash Jen because she does not know what it's like to run at the elite level like Aish did. How has Oliver accomplished more then Jen? Micehl was an 8 time all american with 2 national titles. She also has the record still for the 3k steeple at nationals. Wasn't she also like 5th in the outdoor 15 at us nationals one year? I have no doubt that bodor doesn't know his stuff and that he is a very accomplished runners as well, but I am not sure you can compare his success with Jen's. Once again I am not stating that this means that Jen will be a coach.
I had noticed that same comment and I would like to add that after many years in this sport, I'm not convinced you have to be an "elite" athlete to be a successful coach at any level. Case in point is Coach Vigil, probably couldn't break 25 minutes for 5k at his peak, but is argubly one of the all-time best college coaches regardless of division.
Wetmore has been quite successful at CU and I don't recall that he was ever an "elite" athlete. I'm sure we could come up with a pretty impressive list in no time at all of successful coaches that were never elite athletes.
how fast you are does not effect how well you coach. they are unrelated.
Take for example bench pressig and math class. One takes the body one uses the mind. Same is true with running and coaching.
Vin was a decent runner, but never really elite. His coaching far surpasses anything he ever did on the track or trails.
"I had noticed that same comment and I would like to add that after many years in this sport, I'm not convinced you have to be an "elite" athlete to be a successful coach at any level."
this statement can also be the other way around. Just because you are an "elite" (or a national champ) athlete doesn't make you a good coach.
what i ment was..
Just because you are an "elite" (or a national champ) athlete doesn't automatically make that person a good coach.
