I don't care that she didn't make it to the 1500 final at worlds...it's pretty awesome that somebody who doubled in the javelin even in college is making it that far in 1500m competition. Erin is the picture of hard work equaling success!

That was one of my favourite races to watch. A thick white girl from the US mixing it up with the best. To bad T Clement didn't get in that slow heat, may have fared well.
A "baller"?
Is that some sort of European expression. Here in the US, it means something quite a bit different from what I think you intended to say.
It just means she's tough.

Ive heard this expression used quite often. Always by an American, never by a European.

for god's sake, i'm a middle aged white guy and i know better:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ballerI thought a baller is a basketball player, particularly a good one.
One runner you could describe in this way would be Marion Jones, a three-year starting point guard at UNC who led them to the 1994 NCAA championship.
I remember watching her destroy the field in the 800m and 1600m in the NJ High School Meet of Champions a few years back, and then tripling as a javelin thrower... Back then, she basically just powered her way through the mile... I think her listed weight was something like 130 or 140, but she was solid. Glad to see she has made it to this level so far.
Yeah--when you think about how much more effort is required for her to pull probably 30-40 pounds more than some of her competitors each step around the track it really makes her accomplishments seem pretty amazing. She's probably around 140...you know a lot of those other women racing are right around 100-110
From a Runner's World Brief chat in June:
Are the javelin days completely over for you?
ED: I think so. I haven’t thrown the javelin since my senior year of college. It was fun to do, but I don’t think I can really compete in both the javelin and the 1500 seriously. I don’t want to bulk up too much. I actually outweigh my competition by 30 or 40 pounds.
Thirty or 40 pounds, really?
ED: I would say so, probably. I’m anywhere from 140 to 145 pounds, usually. I don’t think any of the other girls are up there with me (she is 5 ‘7 ½").
Wow, I wonder if she's one of the heaviest sub-4:10 runner ever?! I'm sure there are no stats for that ... surely the heaviest that's 5-10 or shorter.
Of course, I guess there are other heavier 800-types, like Mutola, who have run faster 1500s.
But I don't know how much of it she'll ever lose ... and maybe it won't hurt her for 800/1500. Like you say, she's very strong, solid, and carries it well. I, too, watched her in HS and marveled at her all-around athleticism. Plus, she's a great person. Definitely someone NJ can be very, very proud of. I'm really glad she's improved since graduation. Seemed like she was in a rut for awhile.

I am an American and I have never once heard an American use this expression (except in a porn movie once...)
you're telling me you've never heard the song that goes:
"i wanna be a, baller, shot caller, 20 inch blades on the, impala"
... and you call yourself an american?
Just so no one gets the wrong impression from this thread:
Erin is tight as hell, she has very low bodyfat. She is just solid as a rock.
She runs like 100 miles a week, if not more.
Girl is fit as HELL.
I don't think her frame could ever really stand to lose the weight, there isn't really anything to lose.
Well, apparently Katelyn Kaltenbach is a "baller"
Mutola is a lot smaller than people of here imagine

Yes I do. I admit, however that I do not call myself a "redneck".
Um... I am not sure "redneck" would be the appropriate slur.
