I'm currently building up a base, I'm at 35 miles of easy running at the moment and aim to hit a max of about 45/50 by December before moving into more specific training (I'm following the Daniels plane). I know this little mileage compared to many of you but it is more than I have ever done before and 45/50 miles will be a great deal more than my previous best of 25 miles. I'm running 6 days a week in the evening and also doing a circuits/weights session 5 mornings a week.
I was wondering whether anyone has any advice on whether it would be wise to start taking a protein supplement like whey. Given that I'm training far more than ever, I figured it may aid my recovery. Additionally it may help build muscle as I don't want to become a skeleton with my higher volume. I had mono last christmas and lost a lot of muscle, so would it be a bad thing of I gained some more (I'm an 800m runner).
Or would you strongly advise against taking whey or any other type of supplement? Will it adversly affect my running and am I better off just running naturally and seeing what happens?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
