I'm not sure where I'll be... I'm not a psychic!
I was drunk, taking a bubble bath somewhere in a remote part of Canada.
El Paso, Texas, I guess, though the knowledge crept up on me gradually (I was in grade school and didn't follow track much).
Fall of 1964, this was.
i was at home in my kitchen skipping work to watch pre classic. it was 2001 and webb ran 353 to break ryun's hs mile record.
Just driving into Roswell, New Mexico.
all except the 10k.
I was on letsrun and Lagat had just got his citizenship. Whenever that was.
as a young kid, when I saw Gerry lindren, Billy Mills, Bill Dellinger, Bob Schul, Jim Ryun, et all, make it big in the mid 60's on the international stage.
back in the summer of '02 i had just returned from the Oracle track meet at stanford. i was talking to my mom and told her about how the runners were running real well, and that the '03 WC's, '04 Olympics and '05 WC's were going to be the tip of the iceberg, as the US was developing a strong crew of guys and gals. i basically said that all they needed was about 36-42 months of continuous training and some racing (not time set-up races with rabits) and they'd be running with the best in the world. at the time ('02) more groups were developing and it seemed as if post-collegiate running was going to take off. it was inspiring to me, and i've been a post-collegiate runner for the past 3 years running PR's in XC, track and on the roads. and if i'm doing this well, then the people ahead of me can too.
