There is still a gap rule, but not called that anymore and I can't think of what it is called.
Typically a school's FAR or compliance officer will talk with student to see what they had been doing during any periods of time where they were not in school. Pretty straight forward.
if you are under the age of 59 they wil generally clear you. i have heard of rare instances when 60+ yr OAPs were given clearance as well, but that needs to be escalated to the council of elders
