I was wondering if anyone had a good measure of intensity for tempo runs, if you do not have a HR monitor and are running on unmarked courses? Just wondering.

most people accept that tempo pace is "about" the pace you can hold for an hour. its fastish, but not anearobic. so when you're running, think to yourself "Could I hold this pace for an hour?" then decide if you're moving too fast or too slow.
There was a good thread about this just a few days ago. Check out the link.
If I was to do a 3-mile tempo, would it be better to do it on a loop where I don't have mile markers memorized. Or on a track where I can watch my time closer.
Thanks for the info.
