It is getting old at this point. Now it's not just the winners, but hacks in the stands are throwing flags for 2nd and 3rd place finishers now, to prance around with. I got sick of the flag routine after the '84 Olympics, when Carl Lewis was crucified in the press for his 'contrived' flag routine. I think the last spontaneous 'flag routine' was when the Finnish guy from the stands jumped on the track in Munich and followed Lasse Viren around for a lap. Nowdays that guy would be tackled by security and be in jail for the night...lol

yes, the flag waving, flag poncho routine got played out years ago. The IAAF should ban it.

I like the flag routine (even though it is a routine by now). Sure it's not as cool as when the dude followed Viren around, but Lagat with the US flag was very cool after the 1500, for example.

don't act like a moron. We are all proud of the USA and weren't referring to the USA and the flag routine; but ALL of the flag waving. Yeah, it's perfect for the gold medal winner. But I felt no pride when Perdita won silver in the women's 100m hurdles and pranced around with the maple leaf. Hell, she lost the race. Only winners should do the flag routine. Next thing we know, all finalists will be prancing around with flags for just showing up.

yeah, it's like i college, years ago, you had to be in the top 3, to be an All American in track. Then they expanded it to all point scorers and now I heard (but not confirmed) that it's the top friggin 8 in a final. Only having to beat 3 guys in the final to be an All American, seems ridiculous.

Yes I'm tired of it. It's kind of dumb. The flag didn't win the race.

You don't see swimmers swimming around with a flag after they win or ping pong players dancing around like idiots with a flag on their head. It makes track people look like retards.

I think they should also dump the national anthem playing after they give out the medals. That's also kind of dumb after you hear the U.S. and Russian anthems for about the 4 millionth time in a row.
